Ugh that sucks, @LuFins-Dad . If he only has the first shot, there's plenty of evidence that it is really all that he needs anyway for nearly the same efficacy.

Each person is different. I had Pfizer with no issues on either shot. I almost wonder if the vaccine hits those who've had COVID harder than those who haven't had it.

Actually, there’s plenty of evidence that the first shot did absolutely nothing for him in terms of efficacy.

            Sorry to hear this, LD.

My daughter and I both had Pfizer, and both felt rough for 24 hours, but nothing more. The second shot was a little worse than the first.

I've had bouts of fatigue that have lasted a few hours since my second shot, and this went on for 2-4 weeks, but to be honest I'm not sure whether that's the vaccination or just life.

            I was only joking

I had no problems with either Pfizer shot. I might have been fatigued the next day after #2, but that could have been the driving marathon from the Keys to get there.

I'm so sorry to hear he has this so badly. Can't help but wonder if Covid is like a herpes or hepatitis virus where it hangs around, not actually clearing.

Response to the shot was the number 1 topic people talked about with friends. I must have heard dozens of stories with every vaccine and every circumstance and never saw a pattern nor did anyone offer a definitive predictor. I don’t know anyone who felt bad after two days.

                    Hope Luke is feeling better.

We all had Moderna. After shot 1, Mrs. had some stomach issues for a day. Sore arm for all for a couple of days, and a little fatigue and brain fog for a day for me after shot 2. Other than that, not much to report.

Single dose of Pfizer is 80% against serious cases, and it seems to be “significantly” lower against mild cases or asymptomatic transmission. I “significantly” since we don’t see the actual numbers of breakthrough cases, but are just told that the number is insignificant... Very scientific like...

Lucas’ immunity was likely higher than the
                      first dose of Pfizer grants.

In addition, I have heard several virologists in interviews discuss the vaccines vs natural immunity vs the variants. It seems like the concern is that since the early vaccines all focused on the protein spike, if the variants find a way to confuse the antibodies then the vaccines will no longer be effective whereas in cases of natural immunity, the immune system is primed against the entire virus, not just the spike, and will be more effective.

The great news is that cases and deaths inv have now dropped to an all time low! And this is in the face of almost no social distancing anymore.

It would appear the vaccine is doing it’s job.

I'm not sure it's quite over yet - the British death toll was zero earlier this week, but they're making worrying noises about a third wave kicking in because of the Indian variant - it feels a bit like what happens there happens here a few weeks later.

So far, the concern is the spread to unvaccinated folks. If that holds, the unvaccinated ought to get a vaccine or face the music. The world will not lockdown again for the unvaccinated, it’s just their misery.

Hence the booster shot for us and no vaccine maker has warned that a booster for any mutant strain might not work Not so great for much of the world.

But to your point the odds of a mutant strain resistant to current vaccines is much higher than non zero. Same problem for the “ I already had covid and don’t need a shot” crowd.

But the longer this bloody thing hangs around in large numbers, isn't the greater the chance of vaccine resistant strains developing?

I have read that this particular virus, or perhaps corona viruses in general, has limited ways it can mutate. I don't recall the details.

I hope that's true, but to be honest I've currently got a few trust issues regarding this kind of prediction.

                                        I was only joking

I had hear that too. It has something to do with the structure of the "spike protein" and the limits to that structure.
