“WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken told top Chinese diplomat Yang Jiechi in a phone call on Friday the United States will stand up for human rights and democratic values in Xinjiang, Tibet and Hong Kong, the State Department said.

Blinken also pressed China to condemn the military coup in Myanmar, and he reaffirmed that Washington will work with allies to hold China accountable for efforts to threaten stability of Indo-Pacific, including across the Taiwan Strait, the department said in a statement.

Hilarious that CNN is suddenly obsessed with China. Something well known to be more important than Russia for ages.

In first call with China’s Xi, Biden stresses U.S. commitment to allies and human rights

President Biden will not immediately drop tariffs on China that were applied by former president Donald Trump, and he and told Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday that the United States will seek to counter Chinese military expansionism and human rights abuses, White House officials said.

“President Biden underscored his fundamental concerns about Beijing’s coercive and unfair economic practices, crackdown in Hong Kong, human rights abuses in Xinjiang, and increasingly assertive actions in the region, including toward Taiwan,” the White House statement said.

            It's all about semantics.

Trump put children in cages, letting them sleep on concrete floors with a blanket. He abused children, according to the media and many in Congress.

Biden is putting children in cages, letting them sleep on concrete floors with a blanket. He is doing this, because he cares for these poor children, according to the media and many in Congress.

Joe's tough on China policy is toothless. But it's nice words...

How’s it going with human rights in Iran? Is that part of the negotiations that may happen?

I think they have a worse ranking than China by many measures.

I should go check, but isn't the strait of Taiwan fairly shallow, and not a good match for submarines. Thought I heard that somewhere.

I should go check, but isn't the strait of Taiwan fairly shallow, and not a good match for submarines. Thought I heard that somewhere.

I am pretty sure you are correct. But the Taiwan submarines will also be used in the South China Sea and also to prevent any possible blockade of Taiwan.

Of course hope it doesn't come to that. Not sure what the Biden administration would do. And, not sure our military could keep it from happening.
TG, do you think the CCP will attempt to take over Taiwan as they did Hong Kong? You have probably been asked that question, sorry if it is a repeat.

I would love to visit Taiwan. I've seen so many pictures, it's beautiful.
