So now Candace starts acting like a politician. Swell.

If you look at all of this silly woman's Tweets, she thinks Covid is all a big con. Basically, she's got more opinions than brain cells, so she's perfect for Twitter.

Things must be getting better if we are debating the musings of the long end of the curve. So many people I’ve never heard of. People I respected when I was growing up used to say, who wrote this before they would read it.

It doesn’t matter what we think of them. It’s the number of people that adopt this particular behavior pattern that matters.

What I find surprising is that Owens has always struck me as being intelligent and well-spoken. I guess one can be intelligent and stupid at the same time. Now, she's just another anti-vax nutter.

Yeah, I though the same thing. But now that she's running for office she's playing to the base. And I do mean base.

I haven't looked at her other tweets either, but I have also seen some crazy other stuff from her, so I wouldn't be surprised if her tweet is meant to be taken literally, but there is some merit to the argument that an extremely rushed development and testing would lead to a potentially rather dangerous vaccine, simply because risks haven't been properly tested for. Every vaccine requires a good analysis of the risk/reward ratio. For many people, the COVID-19 risk isn't very high (compared to, say, measles or smallpox), hence it would be necessary to do a lot of analysis of its risks before recommending it for general use.

That may very well be true. But I observe that the vaccine discussions have become so polarized due to the "anti-vax" idiots that it has become difficult to have a real discussion about benefits and risks of vaccines. There are risks to vaccines (e.g., allergies), and for some vaccines the risks are in many cases more severe than the potential gain (such as for tubercolosis vaccines). That doesn't change the fact that the standard set of vaccines that children get these days are a blessing and a "no-brainer". But it would be a bad idea to proclaim that every vaccine is good and has no side-effects worth mentioning.

Over here, the Thalidomide/birth defect scandal is still very much in the public memory. There are good reasons for the long and expensive process to get a drug approved.

Yeah, our main law requiring manufacturers to prove safety came out of the thalidomide scandal. And it was much smaller here.
