              FL - 30,174
              Cook - 27,616 - up 5.9%
              Westchester - 26,633 - up 4.2
              LA - 26,140
              CT - 23,936

Only Cook county has 5% or more daily increase.

Also note Cook county has surpassed Westchester in number of cases (though cook county population is over 5 million, Westchester only ~900k)

                          Illinois is not very different.

                          Illinois has 48,102 cases.

                          Chicago alone has 33,449.

I'm sure the same case can be made for upstate and western New York.

The virus tends to spread in humans so the case count is higher where more humans live.

You would expect convexity. The reproductive rate would have a non-linear relationship with density.

The virus tends to spread in humans so the case count is higher where more humans live.

Is anything known about whether it spreads via animals, too?

Animals have caught it. Imagine they could spread it too. But I haven’t heard anything specific.
