They installed heavy duty gates that are difficult to get through without paying. Revenue up 15% or so, crime on BART down 40%, maintenance costs all but vanish. I can hear the lamentations of the SF leftists from here about how the gates prey on the poor.

How do you expect them to ply their criminal and vandal trades if they have to pay to ride?

You wonder if San Fran citizens prefer these gates but object to border walls. Probably the same people that have fences around their yard and locks on their doors to protect, you know, their land and property from unauthorized entry.

SF had to be brought to this crime enforcement measure kicking and screaming. This was a condition of some state funding, which they are in desperate need of.

The gates are quite democratic. They stop rich and poor alike from evading the fare.

The whole reason we call them illegal aliens is because they’re subject to our laws.

              Quite. Egalitarian, even.

Yeah, the "outliers" on both sides get the most press, but also are the source of most of the political problems that we have today.

I am not sure why people (leftist or otherwise) cannot see the obvious. People who do not pay to ride the subway are already committing a crime. Probably more likely that they will do an other crimes also.
