He believes to be true what he wishes to be true. Not an uncommon human trait, but he's more like that than virtually anybody. Add to that the charisma, the political instincts for what moves people, and the fact that perception is reality, and you get a powerful political force that won't be replicated in a long while.

    Education is extremely important.

From your lips to gods ears.

The whole reason we call them illegal aliens is because they’re subject to our laws.

I don't think leaders like Trump are that uncommon, what is unusual is for one to get elected in the USA.

        I was only joking

History is riddled with tyrants as well as schemers, dreamers and thieves of that description. Only in exceptional instances do their follies end in redemption. This one, I predict, will not prove to be an exception.

Steve Jobs was that way. We got some good products out of it but it can be blamed for his early death when, surprisingly, eating carrots didn’t cure his cancer.

We’re already in fool me twice territory.

This was during the meeting with Trump yesterday:

Darren Woods, who leads the largest U.S. oil company, Exxon Mobil, was especially blunt during a televised portion of the meeting.

“We’ve had our assets seized there twice, and so you can imagine to re-enter a third time would require some pretty significant changes,” he said. “Today it’s uninvestable.”

Trump is shielding the cash from selling seized oil by putting it in Qatari banks.

Again he’s shielding the Venezuelan assets from Us creditors, saying, and I quote, he was “not going to look at what people lost in the past, because it was their fault.”

To be fair, there isn't a swamp in Qatar.

To be fair, I am not sure this is a bad thing. From my undestand, the money (I think about USD$500MM so far) is to be used directly to Venezuela for humanitarian and small business aid.

That would surprise me. A little I would expect. But all or even most of it?

Be rest assured Venezuela will only net a portion of any sums. The boss will skim his due first.

This seems imbalanced given that he first shut down USAID.

                              @Mik

The list ought to have included Halliburton alongside SLB.

Also, there are deposits of light and medium crude outside the Orinoco Belt area. Some in the Lake Maricaibo region but elsewhere as well. That wildcatter, Hamm, could make tons of money in short pay back timeframe if he could latch onto some of those reservoirs.
