    Dinner party here. Caviar with sour cream on Blinis, slow roasted prime rib w/ au just and horseradish, Blue Cheese Potatoes Au Gratin, green beans with mushrooms.

    Red wine and bubbly.

    Dubai chocolate and Walker's shortbreads for dessert with decaf so we quit drinking early and guests can safely drive home. Very little chance of seeing midnight.

          Making a skirt steak but laying low tonight. We just got back from Peru on Monday and I’ve been under the weather. The boy has plans with his mates.

          The whole reason we call them illegal aliens is because they’re subject to our laws.

            Right now tidying up the house and listening to an Artie Shaw Band playlist on Qobuz as is the tradition around here on New Years Eve day. In an hour or so take the dog to the off leash then back home to prepare dinner for friends with whom we have gotten together with New Year’s Eve for twenty some years. Will see in the New Year then shut it all down 1 am.

            Tomorrow all the Christmas decorations come down and that will be a wrap until next December.

              Sounds lovely. Reminds me to put together a jazzy playlist for tonight. Lots of Diana Krall and classic jazz. Maybe some Marsha Ball and Tiffany Pollock for some swamp blues mixed in and maybe some Lyle Lovett.

                Paperwork at the shop...Heading out for a short run in a bit. Then dinner out w/Mrs, and some of kids, and grandson.

                Would prefer to go to sleep before midnight, but that annoys the Mrs, so I'll humor her. End and start the year, 'losing' a battle, lol.

                  Quiet night in here with a bottle of wine and Inspector Lewis or Pie in the Sky (that Britbox subscription won't watch itself you know). We were supposed to be entertaining Mrs. Phibes' parents, however her dad sadly hurt his back on the flight over to the point where he can't walk, so that's a no-go. My daughter turned 22 yesterday, so I may also be consoling her on reaching such an advanced age, and will hopefully be eating her Thai takeout meal from yesterday which wasn't quite what she was expecting.

                    Everyone has great plans. We normally do a fake countdown with the kids around 7pm, noisemakers, sparklers, but otherwise we do a home cooked pizza. Last year was the first year I didn't stay up until midnight, I think it'll be the same this year. Need my sleep!

                          These two-cheese (Gruyere and Parmesan) bites—originally from France—are a great appetizer to include on your dinner table for any occasion.

                          Ingredients:
                          ½ cup water, plus more if needed

                          ½ stick unsalted butter

                          ½ teaspoon sugar

                          ¼ teaspoon coarse salt

                          ½ cup all-purpose flour

                          2 large eggs, plus 1 egg yolk for brushing (make it 10 eggs)

                          1 ounce Parmesan cheese, grated (¼ cup)

                          2 ounces Gruyere cheese, coarsely grated (¾ cup)

                          Directions:
                          Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Heat 1/2 cup water, the butter, sugar, and salt in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until butter melts and mixture boils. Remove from heat, and stir in flour with a wooden spoon. Return pan to medium heat, and cook, stirring, until mixture pulls away from side of pan and forms a film on bottom, about 4 minutes.

                          Transfer batter to a bowl, and beat with a mixer on low speed until slightly cooled, about 2 minutes. Raise speed to medium, and add eggs, 1 at a time, beating after each addition. Beat 1 minute more. Batter should be shiny and form a string when pulled up with a finger; if string doesn't form, add water, 1 teaspoon at a time, until it does. Stir in Parmesan.

                          Transfer batter to a pastry bag fitted with a 1/2-inch plain tip (such as Ateco #806). Pipe about 30 mounds (1 inch in diameter) 1 inch apart onto parchment-lined baking sheets. Brush with egg yolk, and sprinkle each with about 1/2 teaspoon Gruyere.

                          Bake until gougeres are puffed and lightly golden, about 10 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees, and bake until golden and a toothpick inserted into the centers comes out dry, 20 to 25 minutes more. Serve warm or at room temperature.

                              Just suffered an hour of Ronan Keating, chosen by our kids. Quiet night round TV with Koppenburg pear cider, kids entertaining us.
                              London fireworks were pretty good as usual but I'm guessing Sydney or Bahrain may be better?

                                Mrs. Kluurs had surgery just before Christmas - so it's been low key both holidays. Ordered Chinese food - likely watch a TBD movie.

                                    I decided I couldn’t ignore tradition. I ran out to get a pork loin and kraut. Seasoned it, seared it, tossed it into a Dutch oven with some onion, apple, and caraway. Should be done in 90 minutes.

                                      Experimenting with making Hainanese Chicken Rice from a box of seasoning "kit."
                                      Need to supply the raw chicken, the uncooked rice, chicken stock, and some oil; but the seasoning "kit" supposedly has everything else you need to make the chicken and rice into Hainanese Chicken Rice. 🤷
