This past weekend Trump lifted sanctions on potash exports from Belarus. Last week Trump announced a 10% tariff on potash imports from Canada. The US imports 70% of its potash from Saskatchewan. It will now be able to import potash heavily discounted from Belarus.
Today Trump has claimed ownership of Venezuelan heavy oil production. Why would he continue to import tariffed heavy oil from Alberta?
Trump has already systemically dismantled the Canadian steel and aluminum industry and the auto industry in Ontario and Quebec. He is now going after the industrial bases in Saskatchewan and as of today, Alberta.
I attribute it to covetous malice.

It occurred to me that it would be hard to get the bulk of the Venezuelan people to rally around Maduro, but this ‘our oil’ and ‘our land’ talk might just do it.

Agreed. I suppose he will say that our companies built the oil infrastructure and then were nationalized, but that's a far cry from "our oil".

I never attribute to malice what might be explained by my own stupidity. I did misplace several million barrels of oil recently. Now I'm wondering.

Did you use Amazon for delivery of it?

Just checked again. My bad.
Sorry for any reputational damage my suspicions may have caused Venezuela.

You sure it was “systematic”?

Come think of it, probably not as it would require focus and strategic thinking.

So many people voted for him for the no-war thing.
Cannot find the post now, I thought I saw @mik wrote recently (today?) that he would still vote for Trump over Harris if the election were to take place today.

Your propensity to define people based on who they vote for or claim to accept, is gross. But certainly not unique on this board. It's part of the problem, just so you know.

I still would. Harris would have been an unmitigated disaster. far too much of a lightweight for the office. Trump may be overboard in some ways but overall he's trying to get things done, most of which I agree with in principle if not in style.
Neither candidate was what I would have preferred but that was the choice before us. The Rolling Stones said it best - you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need.
