Trump Says He’s Cutting Off Trade Negotiations With Canada

    https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/23/us/politics/trump-trade-negotiation-canada.html

... because, according to Trump, "Canada has fraudulently used an advertisement" featuring former president Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about tariffs.

I haven't seen it but that seems like a pretty clever thing to do. Good for the Canadians.

This is just provides further justification for the annexation of Canada. It is our nation's destiny to liberate those poor folk who live under the oppression of a dysfunctional government.

Here is the ad in its entirety:

And here is an objective breakdown down of the ad itself:

Not clever to cherry pick and change the order. Taking something out of context that says what you want it to is frequent. Cut and pasting it like you're CBS is foolish. You can't get away with it.

Well, thankfully the US President is able to rise above this sort of thing. Nobody in their right mind has ever accused him of being petty, I'm sure.

              I was only joking

It’s what is done. Whether it’s a good idea or not. Suffice to say that Reagan believed wholeheartedly in free trade as a means of bringing nations together. In the case of North America he saw it as a single market with few if any barriers to trade and investment. In that sense the Ontario ad is right on target.

Thanks Renauda. The ad was better than I thought it would be and then later maybe not so best when I heard the run through from the BBC. But edited or not Reagan's point is good in the long run. The USA and EVERYBODY ELSE would benefit from free trade.

Possible that the ad itself had little to do with Trump’s tantrum:

Possible. Sad that we have to consider such possibilities.

It really is little more than an extravagantly expensive distraction for all parties concerned. But that seems to be what the current WH Administration is all about. Extravagance and distraction.
