Oh man did you see what Trump did when he heard about someone jaywalking? Crime is crime, I'm glad it's being stopped.

Do you think they'll need to use the machine guns on the top?

I am pro-cop on nearly every controversial story (George Floyd, Jan 6th, BLM, Daunte Wright, etc) but this show of force is just embarrassing.

You talked about the data, I specifically did not use the DC-reported data but the FBI data that does include aggravated assault (etc) as part of its violent crime trend. Their data matches the chart I posted above. https://cde.ucr.cjis.gov/LATEST/webapp/#/pages/explorer/crime/query

If Trump or congress said they were funding an influx of police officers to focus on late night crime trends or other pockets of crime in certain DC wards, that would make sense. Marching in a convoy of humvees and machine guns is lazy Trump distraction bait.

blah blah blah, a bunch of words to basically state that “no, I haven’t investigated the claims about data manipulation by the DC politicos made by the Police Union”…

Boy, it sure is difficult driving around all the machine gun emplacements this morning… And the rocket launchers… It surely does feel like North Korea down here.. :eyeroll:

The other way to think about this is that it is intended to send a message that the years of lax or nonexistent law enforcement is over.

Imagine getting T-boned by an MRAP because Trump wants to get his base’s mind off of the Epstein files.

Reminds me back during the Furguson riots I think, when the local cops were criticized for bringing in military equipment. One Iraqi-war veteran commenter said “I’ve led patrols in Falluja with less armor.”

It's funny how he said he would drain the swamp but he is BY FAR the most egregious SWAMP KING I have ever seen in the white house.

Maybe you just don't understand what he means by "swamp." You need @Jolly here to translate for you.

I have added another item to track in my President Trump economic scorecard, and that is the number of federal workers. We will see how this does over the long term.

Wait, we can trust the MPD's numbers now, right? (not that I'm doubting it)

Also Trump said DC hasn't had a murder free week "in years" when really they've had 3 stretches already in 2025 in February, April, and May, and the February stretch lasted 16 days.

But I'm glad we are spending $1 million per day on this PR stunt. 🙂

I’m old enough to remember when Obama’s use of Roman columns on the stage at the 2008 convention launched a hundred news segments on Fox about whether he had an emperor complex.

Why isn’t he headed to Jackson MS, which has a murder rate more than 3x that of Chicago or DC?

Still listening to the Hoover bio (it’s 37 hours of audio).

In 1964, Hoover spoke publicly about the crime rate in DC, saying he felt afraid to walk outside even in the daytime.

                                      Seems exaggerated.

I am not a President Trump fan, but there is some truth about crime in cities that he is talking about. Yes, by statistics, violent crime may be down, but I think a lot of us here would not want to walk around cities (or parts of cities) alone late at night.

A lot of it relates back to culture. When people feel it is okay to have a "flash mob" and bother people, rob someone, etc, that is just not goo. And that, I dont know how to change that behavior.

Like I said in my first post, you can believe crime is a problem and think that Trumps approach isn’t the right one. And certainly not trust his motives. (Note he isn’t going after the cities with the highest crime rates, he’s limiting it to cities where he’s despised)
