DC is a Federal district, answering to the Federal Government.
Less than 25% of DC land is federal property FYI. Yes it's a federal district, created congressionally, and all that... but it's not like the plaza in front of the Capitol is the same thing as folks living in their homes on 3rd street.
With DC crimes at almost historic lows compared to the last 50 years, and on a decline over the last year or two as well, even this type of response is pure marketing/distraction from Trump.

Actually, it’s 1/3, and the district is entirely subject to the Federal Government. The issue about the crime rate has been discussed and you choose to ignore it. That’s your prerogative. But I highly suggest you read Dowd’s article and pay attention to Scarborough on this as well.

I am pro-cop on nearly every controversial story (George Floyd, Jan 6th, BLM, Daunte Wright, etc) but this show of force is just embarrassing.
You talked about the data, I specifically did not use the DC-reported data but the FBI data that does include aggravated assault (etc) as part of its violent crime trend. Their data matches the chart I posted above. https://cde.ucr.cjis.gov/LATEST/webapp/#/pages/explorer/crime/query
If Trump or congress said they were funding an influx of police officers to focus on late night crime trends or other pockets of crime in certain DC wards, that would make sense. Marching in a convoy of humvees and machine guns is lazy Trump distraction bait.

I have added another item to track in my President Trump economic scorecard, and that is the number of federal workers. We will see how this does over the long term.
