The interesting thing about this scandal is it includes so many high level execs. Twelve clowns, one Volkswagen.

The oppositional echo chamber appears to be overestimating the dishonesty of the talking points.

If it's as minor a transgression as you say, it's a little odd that the Trump brigade has used such over-the-top language to describe the journalist they themselves invited to the meeting.

He's been called a 'loser', 'scum', 'sleazebag' and even the extremely witty 'Goldshit'.

I'm still at a bit of a loss to see what he did that was so wrong.

Maybe one of The Faithful can explain it to me using their words.

        I was only joking

I've said before that Trump is like Steve Jobs in that he invents his own reality and repeats it enough until everyone around him accepts it as being true. That might work on inventing a device that can hold 1,000 songs with only a single button... but in this case the talking points is "there were no classified messages in the chat!" which they can repeat over and over but as we are seeing...

Now Tulsi's changing her tune from "no classified content" to "oh, I didn't read that part of the chat, I only replied at the end with a kudos to the team". Starts around 1:45. She's then told that her own ODNI classification guidance says information about a planned attack is TOP SECRET, she says... yeah but what about DoD classification system, but then can't say if it would be materially different (spoiler: it wouldn't), then she says Hegseth can decide what is classified or not.

So much fluff over immature folks refusing to just accept they screwed up and will enforce the law.

You may not have any interest in following their talking points, but they are not accusing this journalist of doing anything wrong specifically in this case. His history of motivated journalism is real, and they are going back to that history to call him names etc, but that's misdirection rather than explicit dishonesty. If anybody wants to get precious about those sorts of political word games, ok, but nobody will take it seriously.

The "classified or not" talking points are the closest they come to outright lying, but even there they may skate by on a technicality.

It's fairly obvious that they fucked up royally, and they're trying to mis-direct people who are so gullible that they think this doesn't matter. It's also clear that they were very lucky they didn't say anything that could have been really damaging in their texts and that they didn't invite somebody who was a lot more cynical than this journalist turned out to be.

It's political spin. Maybe there is some gullibility involved in convincing the oppositional tribe that this time, political spin is a huge deal that we should care about hugely.

The mistake has been admitted to, and of course they won't be using language to describe the mistake that resonates with you. I'm sure the Biden administration didn't use words to describe the Afghanistan withdrawal fiasco that resonated with his opposition, either. But they probably admitted that it was a sub-optimal military action.

It was obviously an egregious fuck up. Let’s acknowledge that and be thankful that there were no serious repercussions to the operation, and hopefully valuable lessons were learned for the individuals going forward. So what do we expect to see going forward?

                        1. Firings/resignations and possible prosecutions?

                        2. An earnest and well intentioned apology from those involved that is well received from the press and those on both sides of the political aisle?

                        3. Continual denials and CYA statements from those involved while members of the press and opposition party snipe about this to the exclusion of everything else until some new bright and shiny story catches our attention?

Please… Now the left is going apeshit about protecting Israeli intelligence because of a colossal blunder while 6 months ago the Biden administration was purposely leaking Israeli plans?

Fuckups happen but what Biden and co did was intentional.

                                        From Hillary Clinton:

                                        This is just dumb.
The Trump approach is dumb power.

                                          Military pilots:

                                          https://archive.is/cxvG2

Worse, they [military pilots] said, is that going forward, they can no longer be certain that the Pentagon is focused on their safety when they strap into cockpits.

“The whole point about aviation safety is that you have to have the humility to understand that you are imperfect, because everybody screws up. Everybody makes mistakes,” said Lt. John Gadzinski, a retired Navy F-14 pilot who flew combat missions from aircraft carriers in the Persian Gulf. “But ultimately, if you can’t admit when you’re wrong, you’re going to kill somebody because your ego is too big.”
