Heard David French on a podcast today: "In a just society, Donald Trump would be brought up on charges if anything happens to any of the people he's removed security from". Talk about no limiting principle. On the contrary, apparently there's a principle to keep free bodyguards on all controversial ex-government figures in perpetuity, with legal exposure for any president who doesn't follow that principle.

Also in that episode, they mused that Trump's spite knows almost no bounds, since Pompeo is known to be a Trump advocate. (I've heard Tucker call him an absolute ass-licker). From this, they extrapolate that Trump's spite must have been triggered by something infinitesimal. It never occurred that these revocations of free bodyguards are just a house-cleaning for a government benefit that doesn't actually make sense.

    Education is extremely important.

President Donald Trump has revoked security protection for former top US health official Anthony Fauci, who has faced death threats since leading the country's Covid-19 response.

"You can't have a security detail for the rest of your life because you work for government," Trump told reporters, when asked about the decision on Friday. "It's very standard."

This week, Trump also revoked security protections for his former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, his former National Security Adviser John Bolton and former envoy Brian Hook, who all faced threats from Iran.

Dr Fauci has now hired his own private security team that he will pay for himself, US media report.

Asked whether he felt responsible for the officials' safety, Trump said on Friday: "They all made a lot of money. They can hire their own security too."

Dr Fauci was previously protected by federal marshals, and then a private security company, which was paid for by the government, according to the New York Times.

One of Dr Fauci's most vocal Republican critics, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, had called for his security to be revoked.

He wrote in a post on X on Thursday that he had "sent supporting information to end the 24 hr a day limo and security detail for Fauci".

"I wish him nothing but peace but he needs to pay for his own limos," he said.

Trump has also revoked the security clearances of 51 intelligence officials who had claimed that Hunter Biden's laptop had "all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation."

Did President Trump have government provided security after he left the president office? 🤔

Yes, ex-presidents get SS protection for life, by law.

As good a place as any to put this.

            https://apnews.com/article/hunter-biden-trump-secret-service-ashley-50eba3fcd1ef9d2580fb4bc464d229f6

President Donald Trump said Monday he was ending “immediately” the Secret Service protection details assigned to Democrat Joe Biden’s adult children, which the former president had extended to July shortly before leaving office in January.

            and

Former presidents and their spouses receive life-long Secret Service protection under federal law, but the protection afforded to their immediate families over the age of 16 ends when they leave office. But outgoing presidents can extend protection for those who might otherwise not be eligible for up to six months after they leave office, something Biden did for his children and Trump did for his family after leaving office in 2021. Former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush also extended protection for their families for a period.

Is it normal to announce this?

                The announcement is the point.

Hunter has a detail of 18 agents, all of which he took to South Africa.

It's cute you believe a number Trump made up.

But the petulant child needs to bully. "When they go low, we'll go even lower" should be his motto. Good role model!

I didn't get that number from Trump, lad.

BTW, it's 30 agents, total. 13 for Ashley, 17 for Hunter. Sorry that I was off by one on Hunter.

Where did you get the number from? I only saw references to Trump saying hunter "had up to 18 agents" in South Africa with him.
