One X commenter said something like ‘you can tell who a society holds sacred. They’re the ones who are allowed to get away with raping children’

    Only non-witches get due process.

The idea that this is new is completely bogus. There was an enquiry and my understanding is that the previous government failed to act on any of its recommendations.

I don’t think anyone thinks it’s new. Part of the scandal is how it was quickly swept under the rug after Rotherham and how the authorities that downplayed it and enabled it were never brought to account. And according to Sullivan, that enquiry omitted the worst towns.

This is basically the Catholic Church scandal redux. Except it’s a different institution that people held sacred enough to get away with mass rape of children (‘miulticulturism’ vs Catholicism).

He also noted the politics involved. He said Musk has an ongoing campaign to bring down the British PM.

So much for complaining about interference in other people's domestic politics.

And once again, the government that failed to implement any of the recommendations of the enquiry was the previous Conservative one, that was in power for 14 long years. They're now all over the issue after losing the last election.

All the more reason the current government should have done a full blown inquiry. Cage whomever needs to be caged. WGAF about party affiliation.

They are saying there was an enquiry. And the current government has been in power for 6 months. Not 14 years.

Interestingly, Andy Burnham, the Labour mayor of Greater Manchester, is asking for one.

Was there an enquiry? Or something more like a whitewash of the behavior of authorities.

Also didn’t the current government just vote not to do a full enquiry?

              https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cy4ynzppk80o

Prof Jay described the abuse as "appalling". She found children had been raped by multiple attackers, trafficked to other towns and cities in the north of England, abducted and beaten.

Some were doused in petrol and threatened with being set alight, while others were threatened with guns, made to watch "brutally violent rapes" and warned they would be next if they told anyone.

In just over a third of cases, the victims were previously known to social services because of child protection and neglect issues.

Prof Jay wrote in her report: "By far the majority of perpetrators were described as 'Asian' by victims, yet throughout the entire period, councillors did not engage directly with the Pakistani-heritage community to discuss how best they could jointly address the issue.

"Some councillors seemed to think it was a one-off problem, which they hoped would go away."

She added some council staff described their nervousness about identifying the ethnic origins of perpetrators for fear of being thought racist; others remembered clear direction from their managers not to do so.

The report found there had been "blatant" collective failures by the council's leadership, a failure by South Yorkshire Police to prioritise the issue and said senior managers had "underplayed" the scale of the problem.

                Regarding the pie charts.

What in the bloody hell is the "Wheat, Central, Receiver, Chalic Engage, and Span Operations" and why do they have data?

I just looked into that, and the reason that was voted down was that it was requested as an amendment to a different piece of legislation which is aimed at providing child protection, and so would have meant that that bill was not passed. More politics, IOW.

Apparently, the Labour MP for Rotherham has now backed a full enquiry, so who knows?

No, that’s somebody else entirely. He’s also not the most reliable witness as he was kicked out of the Labour Party for exchanging sexual texts with a 17 year old girl, and then ran as a Reform candidate under Nigel Farage.
