One of the things that people were critical of is that the 1500 page document wasn't really a "continuing resolution," but an "omnibus bill" full of stuff not necessary to keep the government going.

The vote, tonight, will be interesting.

Can Johnson wrangle all the GOP? One or three defections will kill it.

    Nope

    https://apnews.com/live/government-shutdown-congress-spending-trump-updates

The House of Representatives has rejected President-elect Donald Trump’s new plan to fund federal operations and suspend the debt ceiling a day before a government shutdown.

Almost three dozen Republicans joined Democrats to vote against Trump’s sudden demands and the quick fix cobbled together by GOP leaders. The bill fell 174-235, failing to earn even a majority of votes.

The Republican Party today is incapable of governing.

      Sad.

I want to remind everyone that it was House Republicans who decided in September to have the CR expire 12/20 rather than a month or two into the new administration.

That's what, the fourth identical comment in two days? You're griping, but you withheld your magnificence from the Dems and social media, allowing Trump to win because of your negligence? Simply because you needed to gripe? Identical gripes?

          That, sirrah, deserves musica!

That's Tony Levin on bass - he toured with Peter Gabriel a lot. The man is a genius.

Saw Paul Simon in 2006 in Rosemont. Best band I ever saw. I believe Leland Sklar played bass that night.

There's a new clean bill that will be voted on this morning. I don't love the chaos, but I do love that at least someone is fighting to stop the insanity.

Republicans put out a bill that would cover the costs of running the government, pay $100,000,000,000 in disaster relief, and extend the farm bill. Not a single democrat voted for it because it lacked 1300 pages of pork…

One of Trump’s many failures is his inability to promote and endorse others. There are so many Dem House members in districts that he won…

So let me throw it out there. Does DOGE want a shutdown? The last shutdown strengthened their argument about how little government actually accomplishes, and the US got along just fine during the shutdown… It also helps them see what programs and departments truly are critical and how much is actually just overkill and redundant.

Shutting down the government is like turning off a train at high speed. The "See? Nothing changed" argument doesn't hold water over time.

Aside from function, the indirect impact you would feel with dropping sales at your shop @LuFins-Dad and more people on @Copper 's golf course. No bueno.

Oh I meant longer term than that. I think there's like 3 million people in NoVa, of which 600,000 are either federal employees or federal contractors. Let's say the top 50% of the 3 million can afford a piano, you're looking at 40% of the local market no longer having the means to purchase a piano. Again, long term...

BTW I'm not saying that is a reason to keep the government open. Pretty much each job I have departed I could easily see 20-30% of the team cut without any impact to the team's output, for various reasons.

We won’t notice …. Unless we do. Like if you’re the one who can’t get his passport renewed in time, or you’re the one who faces a 2 hour delay at airport security or a canceled flight because so many call in sick (like last time), tired of working without getting paid.

Didn’t want to raise the debt limit without spending cuts.

Trump had been insisting on raising it before he gets into office so it isn’t ’on him’.
