I was in Berlin, at the public party, together with what felt like 12 billion other people.

My friends and I, all single and overpaid, weighed all the options and decided Rio would be best.

First of all, it’s summer down there. Secondly, it was going to be a party in any big city, but they party better than everyone else.

We were celebrating an alpine New Year’s in Jasper with close friends visiting from Finland.

Was it outside at the Brandenburg Gate?

That Rio trip was the last time I smoked pot. I was never much of a fan.

I was sleeping after being on call on the night before.

I was at home in Virginia with my mom and my siblings, watched the new millennium start on TV. My dad was at the hospital with my sister who was dealing with something (I forget what), I think we were on the phone with my dad when the clock struck midnight, though.

We were in Canada, and had been married just over two years, no kids. We were supposed to go to a party but Mrs Phibes was under the weather so we watched the new year in on TV.

                          I was only joking
