So... Trump asked for the troops. Pelosi refused to ask for them.

Is this coming into focus, yet?

So... Trump asked for the troops.

Why, because of tourists taking selfies?

      You read the transcript?

“Cry havoc and let slip the DOGE of war!”

Those who cheered as J-6 American prisoners were locked in solitary for 18 months without trial, now suddenly fight tooth and nail for foreign terrorists’ "due process". — Buck Sexton

Interesting. It’s telling that Milley won’t answer the questions.

I would like to see the full transcript. Both sides have an agenda. Releasing select quotes just reinforces that.

It is possible that President Trump sent a follow up message: "No, I thought about it. No need for any troops. It is going to be a peaceful gathering by US patriots.

(Not saying this happened, but we always talk on this board about how things are taken out of context by "selective editing" or quoting.)

Who has authority to call for the National Guard?

Does POTUS? Speaker of the House? Mayor of DC? Sec Def?

IF POTUS has authority, does Speaker have the veto?

If Trump said "deploy the troops" and the troops ain't deployed, what does that say about Trump's effectiveness as commander-in-chief?

If you believe some of the "tell-all" books that came out (Deborah Birx's book comes to mind) there was a concerted effort to undermine what he wanted to do.

                          Swampy, isn't it?

Secondly, in view of this transcript, what does it say about the second impeachment?

With history, we now know the first was absolute political BS. Now, it's increasingly looking like the second was pure political BS.

I know we have a country filled with LIV's, but whatever your politics may be, citizens should be apoplectic with Congress being used this way.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

                                        @George-K Thanks George

                                        From the Gen Milley interview

The President just says, “Hey look at this. It’s going to be a large amount of protesters come in here on the 6th, and make sure that you have sufficient National Guard or Soldiers to make sure it’s a safe event.” And Miller responds by saying, “Hey, we’ve got a plan, and we’ve got it covered.” And that’s about it. That’s -- there’s not any real elaboration.

                                        and

In the meeting on the 3rd of January there was no discussion to my recollection, and I’m sitting there and I’m paying close attention to all of this stuff. There was no discussion of 10,000 troops.

                                        and

Was there or was there not a subsequent discussion between the President and the Secretary of Defense? I don’t know. That meeting on the 3rd of January at that was the last time I have spoken to President Trump, or have seen President Trump, other than seeing him on TV. So, there’s no interaction, and people are going to want to know this. There’s no interaction for me anyway on the 4th, the 5th, or the 6th, or anything afterwards with President Trump. I cannot confirm or deny if there was a phone call or meeting between President Trump and Secretary Miller before the events of the 6th. I don’t know that. I’m 100 percent confident that there were no phone calls, interactions with Secretary Miller and President Trump on the day of the 6th from 1430 on and I say that with confidence because I’m with Miller from 1430 on until almost midnight sort of thing

From the interview with DC Police CHeif

Like I said, on this particular call this after 2:00 p.m. call on the 6th it was somebody from the Army but it wasn’tSecretary McCarthy. Again I just don’t know who it was. But the speak if you will in terms of the issues are concerned with the National Guard’s presence on the ground of the U.S. Capitol. Those were the same as the conversation I had with the Secretary.

It was, “We don’t like the optics of that, boots on the ground on the U.S. Capitol.”

(Got too lazy to pick further comments, but did skim all three interviews)

Okay, my summary from the three interviews:

                                        • Rep. Pelosi did not (and should not) have had anything to do with the request for National Guard
                                        • President Trump said get whoever needed to provide safety for the event on Jan 6 but did not go into specifics
                                        • Sec of Defense was adamant that no US tropps should be used
                                        • No specific request was made for an exact number of National Guard troops (other than ~350 for traffic control)
                                        • Nobody thought that the crowd would get out of hand

Seems to me that the Sec. of Defense at the time probably was the one who "dropped the ball"
