So... Trump asked for the troops. Pelosi refused to ask for them.

I would like to see the full transcript. Both sides have an agenda. Releasing select quotes just reinforces that.
It is possible that President Trump sent a follow up message: "No, I thought about it. No need for any troops. It is going to be a peaceful gathering by US patriots.
(Not saying this happened, but we always talk on this board about how things are taken out of context by "selective editing" or quoting.)

Does POTUS? Speaker of the House? Mayor of DC? Sec Def?
IF POTUS has authority, does Speaker have the veto?

No member of Congress has the authority to activate the District of Columbia National Guard. Only the president, Defense secretary and U.S. Army secretary do.

With history, we now know the first was absolute political BS. Now, it's increasingly looking like the second was pure political BS.
I know we have a country filled with LIV's, but whatever your politics may be, citizens should be apoplectic with Congress being used this way.
