Black Athletic Socks…

So I needed new athletic socks to wear with sneakers and shorts. I asked Karla to get me some, and she brought home a pack of black socks that just go over the ankle…
I can’t wear them. I feel like I look like an idiot. I’ve seen other guys wearing black socks and didn’t think anything of it, but I feel like a total goober wearing them. Karla thinks I’m nuts. What say you?

White makes right when it comes to athletic socks. I think the original reason was the combination of sweat and the dyes of the time was not good. I see both at the gym. I have considered some black ones, but it would be a waste fo money trying to chase the hip look. The hip train left the station long ago.

All my socks are ankle socks, so the color doesn't matter as much, though I do mostly have white socks. I do like black socks if I'm wearing them around the house as they don't show the eventual "dirty" side from walking around as much as on white socks.
@LuFins-Dad to answer you question, I wouldn't wear black socks above the ankle, nor white (to @Aqua-Letifer 's reply)
@Mik Speaking of being hip. I was recently told by a high schooler here that everyone (all the cool kids at least) wear white socks, half-way up the calf, with the nike logo. They also said if you wear ankle socks (as I have always done, and always will do), it shows you are an old, un-cool person.
