Of course. Bigger sensor, bigger lenses.

I have an X-T5 and an X-T30. But, with my father-in-law's old Nikon lenses I'm thinking of selling both for a Zf.

    Please love yourself.

I'm currently playing around with external remote-controlled flashes that I still have lying around. I wonder if there are solutions, maybe via Bluetooth, to remote-control flashes with a phone and use it to enhance the phone's camera.

Is there a lag in Bluetooth?

I tried streaming some TV to an external speaker and there was an unacceptable delay in the sound.

After ten seconds of Googling, I found this.

The Profoto A10 has been upgraded with our new Bluetooth enabled technology AirX. Meaning that you can download new firmware for your A10 wirelessly via the Profoto app. But even better; You can both capture and control the A10 using your smartphone. So from now on you can unleash the full power of the A10 no matter what camera you use.

Oh wow, this flash is 1200 €. Cheaper to buy a proper digital camera and a cheap flash.

What do you use to edit photos these days? Because both Lightroom and CaptureOne have AI enhance to upscale images. (Luminar does this, too, I believe it's really their thing.)

Which begs the question about the importance of megapixels. I think for a ton of use cases, you could easily spend a fraction of the money on a micro four thirds camera and then blow up the file size with software.

              Please love yourself.

I wonder to which degree that is true. I'm sure somebody has done a comparison of down-scaling images and then up-scaling them with AI again.

Probably, but that's a little tricky because in a real world application, you'd never have that comparison handy. "Good enough to look good and hide what you did" might be better?

Anyway, I've cropped the everloving crap out of some images, did the AI enhance and then printed them. They looked better than the ones that weren't enhanced and still had a bit of digital pixelation. But I've not done a comparison as I don't have a micro four thirds camera.

Some pictures beg to be printed.

When you want to print, what do y'all do?

Mrs. Phibes bought a used digital SLR from Kenny years ago, and it still works well. We've printed out a few of them and framed them - they look fine.

I literally just bought a polaroid camera, btw. Sure the film is like $2 per photo, but I went to an event with my 5 year old daughter the other day and someone took a photo of us. Man it was so nice to hold the physical photo, as imperfect as it is. Will be something I display/cherish forevah.

Walgreens does a great job. Their website/app is very easy to use, cost is low, quality is perfect. Every time I print a photo there I feel grateful their services exist today.

That chart is terribly misleading to the point of lying.

Normies only use smartphones. They used to own a film camera because they had to. Now, only enthusiasts go in for them.

But that enthusiast market is blowing up and has been for years.

Do some price checking for E-100 or Portra 400. People are paying 10, 20, 40 a roll at a rate that can't keep up with demand. If you really want a heart attack, look up Aerochrome on eBay and remind yourself this shit is in fact being bought.

Film camera sales are up, too, not down. By a lot. And they're expensive AF. Shitty point and shoots like Contax T2s are going for more than they were new.

And don't get the market started on the Leica M6 or a Rolleiflex.

View cameras are also blowing up.

Not just photography, either. The same is going on with vinyl, traditional media painting and illustration, textiles, coffee, etc., etc. Normies left the market for "better" alternatives, some got sad because convenience created a shittier life experience, and so some of them return to help grow the enthusiast market.

The most misleading part is that the first two camera categories literally... just take pictures. Smartphones take pictures, but also can do a billion other things, including make calls.

I actually bought a (digital) camera just a month ago (Fuji X-S20). It reminded me how much better a good camera with proper lenses and flash is compared to even the best cell phone cameras.

I bought a 4K camcorder last year. I specifically got it so I could really zoom in at sporting events or plays or other things the kids participate in. I don't overdue it I and I hope to be diligent enough to put together a short video each year of what I've captured. I also use it each Christmas morning as they come down the stairs.

My father-in-law worked as a section head at Ilford, a photographic film and chemicals manufacturer, in the 80's. He saw the writing on the wall a lot earlier than most people and got out while the going was good.

He said the state of denial that the film manufacturers were in at the time was quite frightening. Anybody could see what was coming, but a lot of them were sticking to the old ways right up until the wave hit.

I literally just bought a polaroid camera, btw. Sure the film is like $2 per photo, but I went to an event with my 5 year old daughter the other day and someone took a photo of us. Man it was so nice to hold the physical photo, as imperfect as it is. Will be something I display/cherish forevah.

Bad thing about Polaroids...They are bad about fading over time.

Good call. I'm swapping to Instax.
