I remember getting a detention and writing lines along with a half dozen other boys in grade 5 for changing the words to that song during a rehearsal for the school Xmas concert.
We sang at the top of our lungs:
Edelweiss, Edelweiss every morning you beat me…
The teacher and girls in the class were appalled.
To this day I still hear those lyrics whenever the song is played.
