My first time in Dulles in probably 30 years. At least 25.
It sucks. Probably tied for worst with Denver now that LGA got its facelift. Though I confess I’ve not been to Hartsfield in decades either.
-
Yeah Dulles sucks, mainly because of how long it takes to get between terminals, or to rental cars, etc. I fly back to Virginia (and work near Dulles) a few times each year but always go through Reagan (DCA). That being said... DCA kind of has a stale piss smell once you're near the gates. To make matters worse, MSP is my hometown airport and it is SO MUCH better than most airports. Clean bathrooms, great shops, restaurants, iPads on counters, carpets, etc.
-
I get there a couple times a year. I’ll take it over Dulles.
-
What do you hate about it, jon?
I'm no fan either but then again I just hate airports.
-
-
How long are you in town? I’m in Richmond Wednesday-Friday, but will be spending time in Pentagon City over the weekend and into Thanksgiving…
-
Literally less than 24 hours.
At my sisters. Drove by your art center.

It’s old and crowded and you have to walk long distances and take a little train.
-
I’m not the only one who has noticed.

Paywall. But let's be honest. Major international airport. Has real-estate. Is surrounded by a booming suburban landscape, including a tech corridor that traffics like 90% of worldwide interwebs
pr0nTNCR content. Only going to become more in-demand as populations increase and politics remain the same.So yes... IAD needs improvements. The metro connection was the big one. But within the airport itself, it needs some major upgrades.
-
I can honestly say that the quality of the airport has never once entered into my calculations for any of the cities that I have flown into. Convenience, cost, and available flight times…
-
It may not affect your choices but it can affect your mood.
Keep in mind I lived with the old LGA for years so I have PTSD of sorts.

My favorite India airport - Tiiruchirappalli LOL
(But they do have some cool temples there)

The Newark airport People Express terminal in the late 70s, early 80s was a nightmare.
The ceiling was maybe 9 feet high. People Express used to run a 747 on short haul flights to Boston and DC. That terminal was not built to handle airplanes that had over 300 passengers. At Christmas and Thanksgivings it was particularly bad, hot, stuffy, very crowded.
But it was cheap.
That terminal and People Express airlines did last very long. The new terminal came in, I think, the early 80s.
-
I forgot about People’s Express. They weren’t around for long.

By the way, MIA is a dream compared to IAD.
