I’m not the only one who has noticed.

Paywall. But let's be honest. Major international airport. Has real-estate. Is surrounded by a booming suburban landscape, including a tech corridor that traffics like 90% of worldwide interwebs pr0n TNCR content. Only going to become more in-demand as populations increase and politics remain the same.

So yes... IAD needs improvements. The metro connection was the big one. But within the airport itself, it needs some major upgrades.

I can honestly say that the quality of the airport has never once entered into my calculations for any of the cities that I have flown into. Convenience, cost, and available flight times…

It may not affect your choices but it can affect your mood.

Keep in mind I lived with the old LGA for years so I have PTSD of sorts.

            JFK's no picnic either.

Agree. When visiting, I’d fantasized it being improved by a squadron of B52s carpet bombing the place. It calmed me down when using the airport. People asked me why i was smiling.

The Newark airport People Express terminal in the late 70s, early 80s was a nightmare.

The ceiling was maybe 9 feet high. People Express used to run a 747 on short haul flights to Boston and DC. That terminal was not built to handle airplanes that had over 300 passengers. At Christmas and Thanksgivings it was particularly bad, hot, stuffy, very crowded.

                  But it was cheap.

That terminal and People Express airlines did last very long. The new terminal came in, I think, the early 80s.

I forgot about People’s Express. They weren’t around for long.

By the way, MIA is a dream compared to IAD.

Indeed. It’s big and you do some walking and all but it doesn’t bring you back to 1975.

I once spent the first night of my British family vacation sleeping on the floor in JFK. And it wasn't the floor once you get through security, it was the floor of the public bit prior to that, filled with 'interesting' people. To make things even better, I had to spend the entire next day there waiting for my 9pm flight, unwashed and unloved. By the time I got to Paris, I was so jetlagged and exhausted that I inadvertently cleaned my teeth with the handsoap in the bathroom. I actually thought there were toothpaste machines in the men's room. I'm still not sure why.

                            I was only joking
