Debate day….

This commentator thought Haley won. She's probably still my first choice. From what I've read this morning, a lot of younger voters still like Vivek.

I thought she won too.

His clear contradictions turned me off. I liked his attack on the Trump/Pence administration over the incredible deficit spending even before COVID, but then a few minutes later he’s calling Trump the greatest republican president of the century (which, by the way, he’s one of only 2…)
Personally? DeSantis did better but he started off like a very bad robot impression and his responses actually sounded like ChatGPT. He has made a mistake by not aggressively attacking Trump. This DEI and Trans Idealogy crap didn’t start under his administration, but it surely flourished in the schools durin the DeVos years. And beyond that he needs to attack the shutdowns and directly tie all of those policies to Trump.
Christie was horrible, but he did find some footing with the Pence defense and I thought it was a particularly human moment when he started to raise his hand about supporting Trump then waffled. His statement about not allowing this behavior to continue was weak, but was the only attempt by anybody to really start to address the issue.
I actually came out liking Hutchison. He has no chance, but he stood by his guns. And in everything else not Trump related he came across well.
But yeah, Haley came across the best.

Any Republican primary voter here?
@Jolly? Who do you think “won” the Aug.23 debate?Who won? Manchin.

Pence appeared to be saying "Look, I deserve this - I put up with Trump for four long years". It smacked of a participation medal. He also thumped the Bible way too hard. It might win him evangelical support, which is considerable, but I just don't think people like him enough for him to win. It's too bad. he was a good governor and his conservative credentials are first rate. I suspect he was the key factor in Trump legislative victories.

FFS - His father refused to attend the debate. I probably have as much right being in the "spin room" as Don Jr. does.
Gavin Newsom's exDon Jr.'s girlfriendAttorney Kimberly Guilfoyle calls it a "1st amendment violation."Go back to Con Law 101, counselor.
LOL I don't know what is sadder. Don Jr casually referencing his father's "first indictment" (aka there are multiple now), or that he doesn't realize Fox has been hit really hard financially due to supporting Trump's election fraud lies. I'm not surprised Fox wouldn't want him there.

That's because FOX had barred the Trump people, then the order was changed and Trump supporters were to be allowed in the spin room.

@Jolly? Who do you think “won” the Aug.23 debate?Nobody.
Even GOP voters aren't paying much attention right now. Give it a few more, let the money increase or dry up for some and then people will start to seriously consider candidates.
But I will say that unless the swarm can make a serious charge stick, Trump is the GOP nominee.
If Trump is somehow knocked out, I'd run a ticket of Nicki and Scott, and watch the Demonrat racists howl...

It's interesting how politics makes people proudly admit to failures they would otherwise be ashamed of. Your typical tribalist lefty will proudly claim to not understand how anybody could possibly be in the other tribe, and they'll also proudly claim to be utterly terrified of what will happen if that other tribe wins an election. Most adults don't go around crowing about how dumb and cowardly they are, but enter politics, and all of a sudden an inability to understand other human beings, along with a fear response that causes you to panic, are badges of honor.
