Trevor Bedford expects the protests to have a material impact but not in a single infectious period. He figures the average age of the protesters is too young. Need time for them to infect their parents/grandparents. He suggested 3 infectious periods of delay.
Do you subscribe to the notion that the infected are Trump supporters?

Of course not, the virus is apolitical. We know it skews disproportionately black and Hispanic. And the virus loves density. On the other hand we know that older folks far more likely to be hospitalized

I think we both violently agree that masks are the single most important thing we can do and a President who can’t make that point is not thinking about their long term. I would hope we would also agree that the population that it skews to is not taking Trump’s lead in not wearing masks.

Houston's Texas Medical Center, considered the largest medical complex in the world, reached 100 percent ICU occupancy Thursday, as Texas continues to cope with a surge in coronavirus cases.

It’s bad news for sure but it is not hard to create real makeshift ICU beds. It’s not like people will be turned away or care compromised.

If it's a real life ICU bed, it ain't as easy as you think it is.
That’s not what they are doing, I vent or some other breathing assist and more intense monitor. Lots of ICU surge capacity. Of course staff and PPE is another issue.

Harris County (Houston) phones are making noise tonight.

Little known jon-nyc fact: I spent half a year in Houston working for Haliburton (as a consultant) while Cheney was CEO.

Why do you think Houston is having such a Covid crisis?

Gasp! He worked for the Prince of Darkness, take down all his statues!

@Jolly said in Houston hospitals expect to exceed ICU capacity this week:
Absolutely!
Yup. Just common sense that there would be an equation between the two. In addition, based on the earlier sicknesses, it seems like black people are getting it more frequently unfortunately. And there is probably a higher level of black people in the marches.

Related?
Of course. SARS-COV-2 doesn’t think black lives matter.

So why are we only seeing the surge in certain areas? DC had over 200,000 protestors. Their increases have been around .35%. Philadelphia had over 100,000 protestors and their cases are still declining. Pointing to that as the issue for Houston when the rest of Texas (including rural areas) are also seeing increases doesn't feel right to me...

Anyone who points to it as ‘the’ issue is obviously politically motivated and can be safely ignored.

Um i thought it was the optics that mattered as it caused people to behave in certain ways. For example if you say inject bleach well you might start that pandemic.
