Trump vs. DeSantis

I could be persuaded to support DeSantis, but if Trump can navigate the legal rapids, I don't see DeSantis making a run at him...Unless Trump does something really stupid.
A moderate Republican? A RINO? Won't make it through the primaries, especially in the South.

@jon-nyc I watched Biden on the news today. The man can barely walk. By 2024, he may not be able to. The American public has elected a guy in a wheelchair before, but not a senile guy in a wheelchair...
Not Trump

If he unzipped and helicoptered that would somehow be rationalized as draining the swamp.
Politics is now literally reality TV, and he’s the funnest character. Adults should not want him.

Good, then vote for Biden.

That’s what you’re doing by voting for Lame Donald in the primary. A vote for Lame Donald is essentially a vote for Biden.

Thing is about Trumps true fans, is they’d never quite believe it. Or if they did, they’d prefer the noble defeat.

If, by noble defeat, you mean go on extended rants about election fraud and some vast leftist conspiracy, then you're spot on.
-
Yes of course, but they’d be noble rants indeed.

If by 'noble', you mean 'like King George III during his "eccentric" phase', then yes, you're once again spot-on.

He's my favorite.

As best I can tell, currently Trump is beating the shit out of DeSantis...

That may be. And a vote in the primary for Trump is a vote for Biden in the general election…
By the way, Lame Donald is currently pro Budweiser, pro Disney, and is starting to lose his pro-life support.
Ben Shapiro has commented that Trump will run from the Center-Left side of the Republican platform. How will that play with the base?

I agree with Trump on Disney. In the unlikely event of them ever leaving Florida, the state economy would be fucked.
Also, DeSantis really shouldn't be fighting corporations just because he doesn't agree with their politics. It's fucking dumb. He's putting political considerations ahead of the state economy. Very small-government.

Too much invested. It will never happen. If Disney doesn't want the state playing politics, they should stay out of politics themselves. Especially since they had cut such sweet deals originally.
Next time Elizabeth Warren or some other over-empowered government leftist eejit does some stupid shit, I'll remind you of this.

I'm still not clear why anybody would have any issue with a political actor using their power within the law to do the will of the voters
I guess you've become convinced that the people who voted for DeSantis should have a principled stance against a politician doing stuff their voters want them to do. But you don't have that same stance, nor does anybody else I'm aware of.
If you'd like to attempt to zoom out and explain why, based on first principles, that is a dangerous thing, I'll certainty listen. But be forewarned, you will sound like a conservative.

Funnily enough, I think that the free market is generally a good thing. I've worked in it all my working life. If Disney are doing stupid shit, their customers need to tell them by stopping buying their stuff.
I actually find deSantis' inteference even more distasteful than Warren's. At least she admits she's a leftist who thinks that government knows best and acts accordingly. deSantis is supposed to be a conservative favouring lack of government interference. He's a hypocrite. Maybe it's predictable that I feel this way. Almost as predictable as the fact that self-described conservatives are coming to the defence of his government over-reach. I don't actually believe that conservatives in this country are conservative any more than the liberals are liberals.
Whether I sound like a conservative is open to debate. Trump doesn't sound like a conservative, and he's leading the GOP. Ranting on about election fraud and immigrants doesn't make somebody sound conservative, it makes them sound like a drunken uncle at Thanksgiving. DeSantis doesn't act like a conservative, and he's trying to lead the GOP.

Sure, that would be great.

I'm not clear which actions you're comparing. What did Warren do, regardless of what she's said, that you're comparing to what DeSantis has done?
At least she admits she's a leftist who thinks that government knows best and acts accordingly. deSantis is supposed to be a conservative favouring lack of government interference. He's a hypocrite. So you've arrived at total ideological nihilism. Congratulations for being where you've always been. That's quite a journey.

That's just more nihilism. There is a certain framing of DeSantis that claims an overreach, but that 'overreach' is an adjustment to a sweetheart deal which would already easily be an overreach, from a conservative, small government perspective. The economically motivated love affair between Disney and Florida was never principled.
