We've reached a new peak of new cases

So the 7 day rolling average of new cases is now higher than it's ever been
The good news is deaths until quite recently were still dropping, even as cases leveled off, and they still haven't started rising yet. Part of this is timing, for sure, but I suspect it's also true that the most vulnerable are still maintaining lockdown-style behaviors so they're not getting hit as much as in the spring.

That big uptick in new cases covering the last week is worrying

Probably also because the cases are spread out to more parts of the country, not concentrated in a few areas served only by a few hospital systems. E.g., more manageable to have 1000 patients spread out over 100 hospital systems than to have 800 patents all concentrated in 12 hospital systems.
The healthcare systems are also better prepared to deal with COVID-19 today than they were three months ago.

I am still hearing PPE is too short. I find it rather incredible that no one has stepped up to take advantage of the opportunity and that he administration has not remedied that. It seems a relatively simple thing to do.

Can someone please check the poop tubes (sewer) to see if it predicted the uptick?

No worries when we were told it was our duty to protest.
it was wall to wall on TV news.
Now the news is telling us to be scared.
Never ever forget that.

Why do you personally think that was the message? (I believe I know the answer, but I'm curious as to what you think.)

The former head of the CDC tweeted as such as well as another clinical leader. The news more than implicitly endorsed it.
It’s all our fault that cases are rising yet the news always wants to pin it on Trump. If people believe that it is systemic bias which is just as dangerous as systemic anything else.
Rhetoric that passes as truth makes for impossible real conversation.

Because he contributes to the problem by not wearing a mask. Believe me it’s a huge issue in my book and he deserves to excoriated for it. That said I won’t get behind that thought when the other elephant in the room is not acknowledged.

The reasoning behind that is not at all homogeneous.

The vast majority of the people I see out and about without masks are 20 somethings of all races, middle aged African American women, and Hispanics of all ages and sex. It’s not exactly Trump’s demo so I’m not sure how much he has to do with it.

In my neck of the woods, it's all Trump's demo. But the groups you mentioned aren't at all present, so there's that.

We extended Phase 2 another 28 days. No surprise, as people are absolutely non-compliant.
That ain't Trump's fault. It ain't John Bell Edwards' fault, either. No politician can fix stupid.

Chicago went to Phase 4 this week. Let's see how long it lasts.

Trump’s refusal to talk about masks rationally is the final nail in his election coffin. He runs the risk of an electoral disaster.

If there is one guy in this country whose health is not effected by a mask it is him.
Everyone who gets near him is tested. He is probably tested daily.
If he wore one it would be a joke, a stage prop, a lie.
He would be ridiculed by all sides.
