It's way over the line. As for getting rid of Tik Tok, in time, something will replace it - Pinterest is adding videos - and Facebook has "reels" that serve a similar function.

The issue for all social media is pretty much the same, i.e. it could be possible for people to control messaging and encourage behaviors. Still, that is just as true for FB, Twitter and others.

For me, Tik Tok is a preferred social media to most others. I saw a lot more about what was happening post the Floyd riots thanks to TT. There's a lot of fascinating stuff that floats up to one's screen over time.

There is no doubt that TikTok needs banned or divested. But the rest of this is just an obscene power grab. Warner’s proven himself unfit for office with this bill, and in tech heavy Northern VA (they say that every packet of information on the internet goes through servers in Loudoun County), he may have just sank his career.

Who knows... if the technology used is leveraging an AWS CloudFront Edge location, partnered network, and/or somehow has data pulled into the AWS global ecosystem for redundancy or latency or blah blah blah...I could see why the data might be routed (even if as a backup) through the AWS East region (Northern Virginia) at some point.
