I find it hilarious that such a low tech device can get around all of the technology we have.

@mark It's like saying a hand written note passed from person to person can evade the most advanced of network firewalls and cyber blockades. :man-shrugging:

I assume the balloon is dropping viruses as it goes.
It is more efficient than bats.

@Mik said in Chinese Spy Balloon:
Put a tailhook on an F15 (ceiling 65K) and bring it down.
I thought I read somewhere that the balloon was (is?) floating at a very high altitude, possibly higher than can be reached by conventional military aircrafts.

I've seen some of those missile sites, there is nothing to see, at least for the Titan III that are all underground.
And if there were something to see, it's been seen decades ago. Matter of fact, I think there have been several forum members that have toured Davis-Monthan as well as tours of the missile museums. -

I'm thinking the main reason to do this isn't actually to gather intelligence, but to send some kind of message and also to see how the US reacts.

@George-K said in Chinese Spy Balloon:
Is this something?
A weather balloon shooting down an F16.
Or maybe vice versa.
