Some medical questions..

1. How long before CPR was administered?

Unclear.

2. Was an AED immediately available and was it used?

I read that an AED was used, but no clue as to how long it took to use it.

3. At what point after oxygen deprivation do we have permanent damage? As I understand it, the young man is still intubated.

He could be sedated/ventilated for brain protection and also to see if any spontaneous recovery takes place.

4. How common is V-fib from chest trauma? It's not uncommon for players to get the wind knocked out of them or even to have a rare collapsed lung from a hit.

Maybe it would be ok to talk about NFC games this soon, but I believe a young man's life is more important than any AFC playoff implications.

I don't think it is. Suspending the game last night was the right thing to do, but a decision still has to be made how to move forward.

There's no real time to rejigger the schedule. Given that, it is difficult to see what a fair option would be. It would not surprise me if they simply declared the Bengals the winner since they were ahead at the time. They could also declare a tie and adjust somehow in home field advantage or seeding.

There have been plenty of motor races where people die at the side of the track or are airlifted to hospital and the race continues afterwards. typically after being delayed.

In fact, I can't remember seeing a race being cancelled due to injury.

A tie or a forfeiture clinches the division for the Bengals. It also essentially clinches the #1 seed and bye week for the Chiefs. I tend to think the Bengals and Bills would feel the need to over exert themselves on Sunday just to decide seeding between 2 & 3, and both teams likely rest their starters…That’s essentially putting the Patriots in the last Wildcard, eliminating both Miami and Pittsburgh.

If they play the game on Thursday, that means they will need to postpone their Sunday games to Tuesday at the earliest, and result in giving both teams an extremely short week for the Wildcard weekend, which would be patently unfair to the Bengals, Bills, Patriots, and Ravens.

The fairest scenario in my opinion is a bye week. Either have only the Bengals and Bills play on Sunday and week 18 moves back a week or Go with the Thursday-Tuesday scenario then wait a week before starting the playoffs. But the logistics of that are overwhelming as are the dollars involved.

No, not too early. Heck last night I asked my buddies what they thought the fantasy football apps would do. For example, I'm in the championship game for my fantasy league and Allen (Bills QB) is my QB... so if he ends up getting 2 points instead of 30+, then I'm pwn3d. Don't get me wrong, I fully agree that a man's life is more important than any of this, but the questions of "what happens next" will be asked, whether last night, today, or in a week.

The NFL's decision here will also be setting a precedent. Either the Bengals win because they had the lead at the time a game was basically ended, or I could see them awarding a tie to each team. Hard to see them shifting the entire NFL schedule around to fit in this game. The logistics are incredibly complex.

The 3 ESPN people just after the event were trying so hard to make sure they said exactly the right thing. If they even mentioned anything that was related to playing football they would have been slaughtered.

They kept repeating, all that matters now is the health of the injured player. At that point they couldn't even mention other teams playing football. They were being so careful.

Lucky for me I was posting in TNCR, not live on ESPN. Now I can resume my life without much damage.

Football still matters. It only ceased to matter for that particular game that night until Hamlin was in the care of UC Med Center, but I can see that the teams should not be expected to resume play. What can be done is being done medically, and it's now a waiting game and deciding how to move forward.
