Will no one rid me of this meddlesome priest?

Cheney has never been a libertarian.
Political Death Bed Conversion?

It’s impossible to know if she seriously believes that electing that Republican puts our nation’s democracy at risk. But the fact is, she is riding that belief, fictitious or earnest, to greater national prominence. Obviously there is an end game here and that end game involves more power for Liz. Not to state the obvious.

True enough. But as Rand Paul and other self professed libertarians maintain, they have more in common with conservatives than with liberals. All I am suggesting that on the issue of abortion, Cheney is taking on a more or less libertarian perspective. She may also be, as Horace points, wholly opportunistic.
It is no secret that when expedient, politicians of all ideological persuasions do not refrain from acting opportunistically if they sense an end result of personal or partisan gain.
Why should the supposed neo-conservative Cheney, be any different?

So, conservative Liz Cheney supports a candidate who places no limit on abortion? Up to the moment of birth?
The GOP continues to pour money to support a candidate who has paid for abortion.
-
I suspect she will be pretty consistent when it comes to opposing those a bit too close to Trump for her liking. She sees problems ahead for the GOP and I'm not sure she's wrong about that.

If she can surgically excise the idiotic parts of Trump support from the party and keep the rest, good. I’m not entirely sure she is attached to reality with her moral panic about existential threats to our democracy, represented by candidates who, once elected, will never leave office no matter what.

Who is now a right-to-life candidate.
I thought you supported abortion? Even after birth?

You’re the one who liked to say “don’t listen to what they say, see what they do.”
