This has always seemed so inexplicable to me, short of an intentional effort on someone’s part to create a tragedy.

How could you confuse live rounds with blanks?

I wouldn’t think they’re even sold in the same places.

    1. You're not talking about the most gun-savvy people here. Most actors have atrocious shooting skills (Seagal and Keneau not among them). They go with what you hand them.
    2. It's the weapons master's job to make sure there are no live rounds on the set. There were.

As I've said from the get-go, this is a civil case, not criminal.

      Negligent homicide is a crime.

I don’t know what the standard for it is in CA, but I could easily imagine this rising to it. Perhaps for more than one person on the set.

      Only non-witches get due process.

According to what has been pieces together so far, the ammo supplier made the first mistake including live ammo in boxes of blanks. Then who knows how many mistakes by how many people were made thereafter with not double checking.

        Education is extremely important.

Don’t forget that Baldwin’s culpability goes beyond being an actor. As producer he could be held responsible.

It would have to be recklessness or negligence. I think since he is not the one responsible for the prop gun and has hired a person to take care of those details, negligence is a high hill to climb.

Depends on the details. You’d need an investigation to answer that.

So, he is kind of fluent or he is a much much better actor than any of us realized! 555

                                Settlement.

Alec Baldwin and the production team of “Rust” reached a settlement in the wrongful death lawsuit of Halyna Hutchins on Wednesday. In the agreement, the movie established a date to return to production, and got a new executive producer — Hutchins’ widowed husband.

Halyna Hutchins, the film’s cinematographer, was killed on the set of the film nearly a year ago, after Baldwin fired a prop gun he was told was “cold.” The incident prompted a widespread investigation, and Hutchins’ family filed their lawsuit back in February.

Alec Baldwin Explains How Gun Went Off Even If He Did Not ‘Pull the Trigger’ in Fatal ‘Rust’ Shooting (Video)

“We have reached a settlement, subject to court approval, for our wrongful death case against the producers of Rust, including Alec Baldwin and Rust Movie Productions, LLC. As part of that settlement, our case will be dismissed,” Matthew Hutchins, husband of Halyna Hutchins, said via his attorney Brian Panish of Panish | Shea | Boyle | Ravipudi LLP.

He continued: “The filming of Rust, which I will now executive produce, will resume with all the original principal players on board in January 2023. I have no interest in engaging in recriminations or attribution of blame (to the producers or Mr. Baldwin). All of us believe Halyna’s death was a terrible accident. I am grateful that the producers and the entertainment community have come together to pay tribute to Halyna’s final work.”

The settlement comes just a few weeks after a hearing in which a New Mexico district attorney said that her office could be close to charging up to four people in the incident with criminal charges relating to homicide.

‘No impact’ on criminal case: DA

“The proposed settlement announced today in Matthew Hutchins’ wrongful death case against Rust movie producers, including Alec Baldwin, in the death of Halyna Hutchins will have no impact on District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies’ ongoing investigation or her ultimate decision whether to file criminal charges in the case,” said Heather Brewer, spokesperson for the Santa Fe District Attorney’s Office in New Mexico, in a statement shortly after news of the settlement was announced.

“While civil suits are settled privately and often involve financial awards, criminal cases deal only in facts. If the facts and evidence warrant criminal charges under New Mexico law then charges will be brought,” the statement continues.

“No one is above the law,” it warned.

Alec Baldwin sues several ‘Rust’ crew members for handing him loaded gun

Alec Baldwin filed a lawsuit against several crew members of “Rust” on Friday for providing him with the loaded gun that he fired on set, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins last year.

Baldwin, who is awaiting a decision on whether he’ll face criminal charges in the shooting, accused the movie’s armorer and first assistant director, among others, of negligence in a cross-complaint following a lawsuit filed against him last year by script supervisor Mamie Mitchell.

Baldwin’s attorney, Luke Nikas, said the crew members did not maintain safety on the New Mexico film set.

“This tragedy happened because live bullets were delivered to the set and loaded into the gun,” Nikas wrote in the suit.

Baldwin’s suit names Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the film’s rookie armorer who was in charge of handling guns and ammunition, as well as assistant director David Halls, who handed the loaded gun to Baldwin after he announced it was safe.

Sarah Zachry, the head of the crew’s props department, and Seth Kenney, who supplied the guns and ammunition to the set, were also named.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.
