@Jolly said in Banned in the pool...:
They CAN compete if they transition before the age of 12.
If somebody has transitioned before 18 their doctor needs to be drawn and quartered and their parents jailed (if they consented).

Will be interesting to see how many compete in the new category.

The mens competition is the de facto open category, as is the case in all professional sports I'm aware of. If trans women are sad that they can't compete with the best men in the world, I hope they know that the other 99.999% of us can empathize.

As with what @mik said, I agree 100%

This ban is just for international competitions, right? What are the chances NCAA will follow suit?

I wondered about that as well.
Who in the world would subject his kid to hormones and surgery at age 9?

Plenty of folks who seem to prioritize their own feeling of boundless tolerance and wokeness at the expense of their kid's mental health, and physical health too, I guess.

I wonder about the politics around doing real psychological studies of the efficacy of gender transformation in creating happy, healthy, well adjusted people. Would it even be possible to study this, or is it third rail?

We know that 80-90% of cases of pubescent and prepubescent Gender Dysphoria do resolve themselves within a few years as the child goes through puberty. To introduce Puberty Blockers and Transitioning Therapies (both medical and psychological) is NOT Gender Affirming Care. In fact, it is abuse and is putting these children at great risk.

Except for those who just knew she could never have been a boy.

One thought that occurred to me when I typed that was “It IS gender affirmative, but only to the adults that put transitioned themselves.” They need to see a huge number of kids transition in order to feel normal.

That’s quite a sinister spin, but sadly probably accurate.
