People, you worry too much. Consider the words of Jesus in Matthew 6...
24¶ No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. 25Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? 27Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

I was wearing a mask because of the global pandemic
Of the 3 places I went today (golf, dentist, liquor store) only the liquor store wanted me to wear a mask. I wonder if that is statewide.

A fellow was stuck on his rooftop in a flood. He was praying to God for help.
Soon a man in a rowboat came by and the fellow shouted to the man on the roof, “Jump in, I can save you.”
The stranded fellow shouted back, “No, it’s OK, I’m praying to God and he is going to save me.”
So the rowboat went on.
Then a motorboat came by. “The fellow in the motorboat shouted, “Jump in, I can save you.”
To this the stranded man said, “No thanks, I’m praying to God and he is going to save me. I have faith.”
So the motorboat went on.
Then a helicopter came by and the pilot shouted down, “Grab this rope and I will lift you to safety.”
To this the stranded man again replied, “No thanks, I’m praying to God and he is going to save me. I have faith.”
So the helicopter reluctantly flew away.
Soon the water rose above the rooftop and the man drowned. He went to Heaven. He finally got his chance to discuss this whole situation with God, at which point he exclaimed, “I had faith in you but you didn’t save me, you let me drown. I don’t understand why!”
To this God replied, “I sent you a rowboat and a motorboat and a helicopter, what more did you expect?”

Wonder what they guy on the roof would have done in a thermonuclear war?

So plan for nothing because we're all screwed anyway, is that what you're saying?

Want to compare your pantry with mine?
That's what I mean. You're fully stocked but talking large about "you worry too much" when others are picking up supplies. Like, are you bragging, or what?

It takes nothing to do it daily and would be a godsend if things get dicey. The possibilities of cyber warfare worry me much more than a pandemic.
Fair enough. I'll probably stick to stocking up on potable water because quite frankly we have an assload of water nearby if needed.
Then again, I'm also within a D.C. blast radius so we're kinda fucked anyway.
Nah, you’re well outside the radius of a Hiroshima type blast… https://www.businessinsider.com/how-nuclear-attack-would-destroy-us-cities-2019-12

Why do you say the global pandemic is unrelated to the war? I definitely think Putin picked his moment, so yo speak.

Because the pandemic didn't cause the war, and the war didn't cause the pandemic. Putin would have done this anyway.

Even a 1.2 Megaton bomb has a radius of 7 miles. Yes, there are larger bombs, but they aren’t really practical.

I'm decently stocked. And I've already got my seeds bought and my garden rowed up. But that's just everyday stuff. We have little minor things like hurricanes.
Economic warfare. Keep some cash on hand, your car tanked up and enough to get by for a few days.
Nuclear war? You ain't gonna make it. Neither am I. As the crow flies, I have one of the largest NG bases in the country within a dozen miles. Fort Polk, one of the largest Army bases is a little over an hour West. Jefferson Barracks and a F-15 ANG are down South. Barksdale is 120 miles north...and probaly has enough nuclear capability to make a smoking ash heap out of most of Eastern Russia.
I figure if you get one of the first MIRVs, I'll get the second. Ain't a darn thing you can do about it.
Say your prayers, get right with God and don't worry so much.
-
We live in a nuclear free zone, so I'm not worried about that. I'm confident Vladimir Vladimirovich has heard about us. He stole one of Bobby Kraft's rings, after all.
OTOH, the thought of hoards of feral Massholes running amok is pretty scary. I may need to invest in some bear spray.

You guys are acting like it will either be all or nothing… There are countless levels of bad that fall between sanctions and mutually assured destruction…

Yes because one thing war definitely does, it makes people come to their senses. Especially thugs.

When I lived in Northern Virginia I did a quick check (a few years ago) of what I would do. I found the (relatively) best place in the basement to go, but also felt better that the wind would take the fallout north and east... oops, sorry Aqua if that sends it your way.
