No one has had their children taken away.
-
Nope. But they were threatened.
-
But, they can joke about horses trampling people...While enjoying their accomodations...
-
BTW, revenge and retribution seem to be the theme of the day...

Never.

From your perspective, why is it better for the public good for the police to track down the protesters and file fines and criminal charges?
Serious question, because here, they'd probably disperse the crowd, maybe arrest some who are the most adamant about making a scene and not pursue it from there. If they did that in Canada, why would it not be enough to just disperse the crowd?

Your serious question regarding Canadian law enforcement would be more objectively and accurately answered by one of your fellow countrymen who have greater expertise in Canadian affairs than my own. After all, I only live here.
Nevertheless, I’ll try to answer you from the perspective of law enforcement.
It is about accountability. Contrary to what you may be led to believe, the police will only track down those protesters who on video surveillance during the protest, or eye witness accounts indicate an individual or group of engaged in some sort of criminal behaviour. In this case usually acts of public mischief or vandalism to property.
Protesters not observed being engaged in criminal activities will be not be tracked down by police and charged with any criminal offence.
This a common police practice here during any acts of disobedience, large scale protests and high security events such as the G8 summit. It has often been used in the wake of our much publicised and often violent hockey riots that have occurred in Montreal and Vancouver.
I support it and I support our law enforcement officers. The way they managed and dispersed the occupiers in Ottawa was exemplary.

exemplary
Kicking a man AFTER he's subdued?
Someone ask this guy if he can breathe:
Hitting people with the butts of their rifles?
Hitting a woman who is not protesting.
I agree that the unlawful blockade of streets, the unlawful occupation of parks is to be stopped.
But I find it more than a bit difficult to justify these actions.
-
I do not put much stock in twitter feeds and videos for facts or the circumstances surrounding incidents. I am therefore not going to judge the police actions either way. Suffice to say that since the videos are all over social media, they will be investigated appropriately and the individuals involved will be held to account.
I will however comment on the very last video, the one where the protester insisted on getting a coffee and refused to vacate the restricted area when ordered. He is a twat.

On first viewing, I was unsure if it was a restricted area, I'll take your word for it.
Hitting people and knocking people's phones out of their hands (while improperly masked, I might add) is justice for being a twat?

Well in fairness, you never know what happened prior to the footage.
It's really not that different from here. Remember Lafayette Park? Oh no, no sir, we never used anything like smoke or tear gas to disperse the crowd! And then there was the kid on the hillside who got shot in the face. Cops + crowd = things don't go smoothly.

Watch the video again. The cop tells the person to vacate the “red zone” or he would be arrested. The twat starts to argue and then it’s goodnight Vienna. If a cop tells me I am in a Red Zone and must leave I comply. I along with every Canadian knows what a Red Zone is and means. I assume Americans do as well. The twat knew he was in the red zone and started to argue.
So yes he deserved to have his device knocked out his hand and yes, he earned an attitude adjustment smack from the cop who gave ample warning to vacate the area immediately or face arrest.

When (typically) black men are killed by American policemen, people frequently say 'If only they'd do what the cop told them, this sort of terrible thing wouldn't happen'.
I know, this is completely different. She wasn't committing a crime. Also, he didn't shoot her.

I see you've bought into that old false narrative hook, line, and sinker...

Glad you pointed out that the person was female. I missed that when I first saw the video.
I’m sorry then that I called her a twat. Even I don’t think that it is at all appropriate call a woman such. Rather, given her attitude and demonstrated sense of entitlement towards lawful authority, I ought to have called her a “princess” or, at the very worst, a “stupid cow”.
