He's there. Not a super big one, I'd peg him at about two feet.

Helps that I've got a buttload of them around here.

Fun fact...They like to hunt at night. When you're be-bopping through the palmetto at night, they like to crawl up on the tops. That's different than rattlers, who tend to stay on the ground.

        I've probably mentioned this before.
When we moved to Tucson, I would go jogging at sunset in the desert. It was beautiful to jog when the sun was going down.

Then a neighbor came up to me and told me it's not a good idea to jog at sundown. The desert comes alive when the sun sets. Over the 10 years we lived there, I saw lots of creepy creatures.

I wonder if they played with the colors in the photo a little.

Years ago, I took the wife turkey hunting. Turkey season is in the early spring, when all the critters are stirring. We found and tried to work one gobbler, but I couldn't get him in. I'm not great with a turkey call.

Alas, couldn't get another to answer, so we packed it in late morning. On the way out, I shot five or six cottonmouths. The wife was glad that the snakes weren't there when we went in, probably because of the cool morning.

She was shocked when I told her they were there, I just wasn't going to mess up a hunt by popping snakes.

She wouldn't go back turkey hunting...

Has some to do with the lighting, but when they're in brown leaves and pine straw, they're tough to pick out. Look for either the spade head or for the back markings.
