We either have fair elections, beyond reproach, or we are no better than a run-of-the-mill banana republic.
Gasp! Maybe you will stay at home and not vote until you think we have elections that are fair "beyond reproach." Lately, that's what Trump suggests that Republicans should do anyway.
I'd tell you to stay at home and fuck yourself, but it's late and that's already happened

Told ya heād win, I can predict the future you know.
I think he'll win, too, but he must be getting a little worried...

@jolly Oh it's closer than it might otherwise be. Heck, he might even lose if the passion of the turnout is on the GOP side, but still... What's so wrong with that statement that parents shouldn't be telling schools what to teach? Obviously it's not as cut and dry like that, but if the last 18 months have taught me anything, it's that there are a TON of idiots out there, on both sides. Almost like the pandemic has put a flashlight on the floor and we see the idiots scattering into the public arena.
Yes, at the end of the day the parents should have some control over what is being taught (or rather, who is in control of making those decisions), but the idea that the loudest (and most annoying) parents might have any say in what an objective curriculum should consist of, is scary.
-
@89th You are completely missing the impetus of the question that was asked and the reason he gave his response.
The first part of the quote āIām not going to let parents come into schools and actually take books out and make their own decisions,ā
A few days before, the big news was about a parent confronting the Fairfax County School Board over explicit and disturbing books being found in the schools libraries https://wjla.com/amp/news/local/fairfax-county-public-schools-pulls-lgbtq-books-graphic-sex-libraries-virginia-lawn-boy-gender-queer
Due to parents uproar over the next several days the books were finally removed, but there was a huge fight over it.

@lufins-dad Helpful to know, thanks. I was going off of the sentence/sound-bite that is being used in ads as referenced in that article.

McAuliffe walks out on interview. Here's ABC's comment:
Here's the interview. Go to 10:35.

Even if that hadnāt been the impetus, it was still a very stupid thing to say when members of school boards are threatening to dox parents and get them fired for holding contrarian views.

Well, that didn't age well...
Hey, Mr. Carville, why so much hate?
In the Monday fundraising email, Carville wrote, āFolks, I gotta tell you the truth: I hate guys like Glenn Youngkin.ā
āFirst, he amassed tons of wealth by stepping on the little guy at a ruthless private equity firm,ā the email continued. āThen he used that wealth to buy the Republican nomination in this race for governor.
Where McAuliffe got his campaign money is, of course, not a subject of discussion.
Now, heās indulging Donald Trumpās dangerous lies about the 2020 election to win over support from right-wing extremists.ā
Snort:

Wait, Trump lies! That's disqualifying!

But Chuck, we have a great school system in Virginia. Dorothy and I have raised our five children. Of course parents are involved in it. The question should be could an extreme Republican bill that would allow parents to take books off of shelves, should that be left in the hands of parents or should it be left to the school boards and others who do this every single day and focus on it?
So, (former) Governor McAuliffe, despite your statement, where did you send your kids?
The McAuliffes, it turns out, sent their children to the private Potomac School in McLean, Virginia, outside of Washington, D.C., and the candidate's wife Dorothy McAuliffe served as chair of the board of trustees for the school while their children were students.
An annual report published by the Potomac School in 2008 and obtained by Townhall includes a letter from trustee board chair Dorothy McAuliffe and later lists the family as having students in second grade, seventh grade, and tenth grade.
Current tuition at the Potomac School runs from $39,150 for kindergarten through third grade to $45,650 for ninth through twelfth grade. While there's nothing wrong with a family pursuing the best possible education for their children, it does become problematic when a member of that family runs on a record of vetoing school choice bills and a platform of denying parents the right to influence the education given to their children. That's exactly what Terry and Dorothy McAuliffe have done.$39K for kindergarten.
It's good to be the king.

Oh, Heās screwed the pooch. Itās possible they can pull this off, but his flub has opened the door for Republicans across the US.

WThat would be funny, if it wasn't true.
