Ideals are only of value if held to. If proclaimed and ignored they become propaganda.

@mik Can't agree. If something is established as an ideal, then it's an ideal. If it's attacked or damaged, it's still an ideal. Once it's established, the idealism of the ideal -- you should pardon that awkwardness -- doesn't depend on any reaction to it. It doesn't change. Only time can obliterate it, and the ideal of voting hasn't had enough time for that.

Then Jolly's statements don't matter to the ideal.

@mik That's true, but attacking an ideal is still doing disservice to the ideal, if only to call it into question.

This is getting silly. I'll give up if you do.

300,000 mail-in ballots. The ballots most susceptible to fraud.

Color me unimpressed by the sanctimonious arguments. We either have fair elections, beyond reproach, or we are no better than a run-of-the-mill banana republic. And eventually, the man on the white horse will ride in and hit a violent reset button.

You obviously don't even know what the word "ideal" means.

Gasp! Maybe you will stay at home and not vote until you think we have elections that are fair "beyond reproach." Lately, that's what Trump suggests that Republicans should do anyway.

If anybody wants to hold an ideal that agrees with cats, they will be inevitably disappointed.

@jolly Oh it's closer than it might otherwise be. Heck, he might even lose if the passion of the turnout is on the GOP side, but still... What's so wrong with that statement that parents shouldn't be telling schools what to teach? Obviously it's not as cut and dry like that, but if the last 18 months have taught me anything, it's that there are a TON of idiots out there, on both sides. Almost like the pandemic has put a flashlight on the floor and we see the idiots scattering into the public arena.

Yes, at the end of the day the parents should have some control over what is being taught (or rather, who is in control of making those decisions), but the idea that the loudest (and most annoying) parents might have any say in what an objective curriculum should consist of, is scary.

@89th You are completely missing the impetus of the question that was asked and the reason he gave his response.

The first part of the quote “I’m not going to let parents come into schools and actually take books out and make their own decisions,”

A few days before, the big news was about a parent confronting the Fairfax County School Board over explicit and disturbing books being found in the schools libraries https://wjla.com/amp/news/local/fairfax-county-public-schools-pulls-lgbtq-books-graphic-sex-libraries-virginia-lawn-boy-gender-queer

Due to parents uproar over the next several days the books were finally removed, but there was a huge fight over it.

Even if that hadn’t been the impetus, it was still a very stupid thing to say when members of school boards are threatening to dox parents and get them fired for holding contrarian views.

That was weird, almost like he thought he had a 10 minute limit.

Supposedly, he had somewhere to be that couldn't wait 10 minutes.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

                                          Well, that didn't age well...

Hey, Mr. Carville, why so much hate?

In the Monday fundraising email, Carville wrote, “Folks, I gotta tell you the truth: I hate guys like Glenn Youngkin.”

“First, he amassed tons of wealth by stepping on the little guy at a ruthless private equity firm,” the email continued. “Then he used that wealth to buy the Republican nomination in this race for governor.

Where McAuliffe got his campaign money is, of course, not a subject of discussion.

Now, he’s indulging Donald Trump’s dangerous lies about the 2020 election to win over support from right-wing extremists.”

                                          Snort:
