“Anybody who wants a test can get a test.”

@jon-nyc LOL - A lot of what he said is not going to age well at all.
On a separate note, as we are doing here already...it will be interesting to see which models proved accurate, what assumptions were correct, etc. Lots of statements/forecasts made in the last month that we'll be able to grade for accuracy later.

Not really.

The countries with the highest test rates, Spain and Italy, have the highest death rates as well. However, countries with lower test rates, such as Japan have lower death rates.
South Korea has performed 30X the tests that Japan has, and has a six-fold higher death rate.

Trying to quell panic, he was. Everybody knew there was no way to test everybody.
Of course, if he said only a select few could have a test, some of y'all would find fault with that.
Here's something to focus on, and something I've remarked about repeatedly...Compare the tests pumped out by the private labs vs. government labs.
That is a clear and imminent danger to the republic, if there ever was one. The system is broken. Badly.
And that's a lot more important than any healthy individual pissed, because he didn't get a test.

We will know when the peak is near when the politics get really loud. Both sides have committed grievous factual errors so it’s going to be a slugfest in the mud.

Lying, he was. Covering for it because he's on your Team, you are.
You can quell panic and also not talk shit. Good leaders know how to do that. Yeah yeah I know, TDS, every criticism is TDS, because Trump is awesome etc.

And you can go fuck yourself.
Criticism can be warranted, or not. I've admitted multiple times where Trump has made a mistake. Can you point out an equal amount of times where you have praised him?

wrote on 6 Apr 2020, 13:57 last edited by@Jolly I'd say his best outcome is about a 50% success rate in hindsight, because no one is capable of getting this completely right, or even close to it. So I give him a ton of latitude. If you want specifics, I just said that cockamamie thing Ax posted about his mental health assessment was about the dumbest thing in the world and the last thing we need right now are ginned up impeachment charges.
I just don't think there's any justification for lying to the public about anything. I mean that was the Clinton thing, right?

Aqua, you really have to realize what the stakes were and are here. A public panic would have been the very worst thing imaginable, and it was his job to prevent that. He did. What he might have said better was everyone who needs a test will get it, but he didn't. We also did not have a panic.
Can you imagine Roosevelt saying that the Germans were also working on an atomic bomb and if they get it first we're screwed? We had no idea how WWII would work out but we talked victory from day one. Had Hitler not attacked Russia it might have been very different.

wrote on 6 Apr 2020, 14:07 last edited by@Mik Yes but what Roosevelt didn't do was say, "the Germans are absolutely not working on an atomic bomb."
I've come around to some of his rhetoric. I think a lot of times it's his extremely clumsy way of doing exactly what you're describing. But c'mon man, don't lie about shit. There's no need for that and it absolutely does not instill trust.

I agree. One of the things I have learned in my career is that people will still respect me even if I dont have the answer.
It is okay to say - "I dont have an answer for you right now, but I will find out and have someone get back to you."
That is much better than trying to make up something on the spot which comes back to make you look bad.
Like Aqua said, it would have been so much better to say something like - "we are increasing the testing. Each day, we will have the capability to do more testing. Is it where I want it to be right now? No. But we have a lot of great people working on this moving forward." No commitments, no exact promises, BUT no lies either. So much better.

For the record, my bad on getting on Jolly's case. I'm just pissed that we're not getting the messaging I personally would like to see from the president. Which in the scheme of things doesn't amount to anything.

We have no need for a scary president.
That job is more than covered.
He is, and has been, advocating the correct response to the flu.
A little sunshine is part of his job.

Yes, this, but our current president is incapable of making such a statement, regarding anything.

Someone else here made a similar statement last week
You really have to watch the press conferences
He makes such a statement several times every day

So Trump is actually saving lives by not testing us! Is there anything he can't do?
