You can try and minimise this all you like, but it's pretty obvious what happened.

I personally think it’s over and am not interested in either maximizing it or minimizing it. So far all our discussion is attempts to minimize it and the retort is like shooting fish in a barrel.
Well, no. My recollection is that your own rhetoric about the event is hardly ground truth fact, rather your own emotional response to the Capitol being vandalized.
Oh it was a huge event but I am in fact ready to move on except when folks minimize. I love how talk becomes twisted, if only those damn videos didn’t exist. LOL.
The videos are not proof of an existential attack against our democracy. Nor even of "hugeness" of the event.
You might in fact consider it an unfortunate but acceptable consequence of our freedoms, but mostly of leaving the Capitol doors unlocked.
I agree and even was the first to point out that Mayor Bowser called off the National Guard even in the face of good intel. So I agree it should have been preventable. Accountability all around.

People don't say that because it had any hope of succeeding. People say that because that's what the mob actually would want to happen. They literally wanted the government to be overturned. Again I refer you to the videos made at the time for evidence of this.

the government to be overturned.
That covers a lot of ground
Maybe I don't understand "literally "

People feel passionate about politics. It's not as if Trump's rhetoric created this psychology. How many people hoped Trump would die, or be killed? Heck, even posters on this board admitted to that.

Yeah, the fact that they were uselessly and cluelessly inept isn't really a good defence.

Shocked faces at people having destructive fantasies over political disagreements aren't very convincing.

Once again, it's not really the fact that a bunch of incompetent idiots attempted to storm the Capitol that bothers me. It's that an outgoing President egged them on and encouraged them, basically because of his own inability to deal with failure.
Yeah, yeah, he rather half-heartedly condemned them later, but really, he fucked up royally on that day.

Shucks, on other boards you even see avatars such as this one...
That's truly a classless bastard, isn't it?...

The saddest part is the lack of self awareness. Such small, petty people on the left, I really feel sorry for them.

egged
By condemning violence
He didn't condemn the violence before it happened, the egging occurred prior to the attack of the useless virgins and the horny Q's.
Time is linear. This isn't a Doctor Who episode where you can go back and change the fact that you've acted like a spoiled baby in front of a bunch of supporters who believe that the Democrats are secretly selling children in Pizza Hut.

Absolute horseshit.
Of course, that's the narrative CNN wants you to buy. Trump's people obtained a permit for 30,000 people for his January 6th rally. More than that showed up. Estimates of crowd size vary all over the place, with some estimates as high as a million (highly doubtful).
There gave been around 500 people arrested for the riot. Actual number of people in the mob are likely less than 2000.
So you're gonna tell me that the vast majority of people at the rally, were all QAnon, Proud Boys, etc? all ready to storm the Capitol. Any thinking person knows better than that.
Don't be a fucking idiot...

And I thought the Proud Boys were good guys?

Holy shit, Batman! It's a one-man insurrection! Hang the bastard!
BTW, how many Portland antifa were convicted on those same charges?
