@taiwan_girl I also took the Israel licensing exam but it’s basically ripped off from American tests. Same pool of questions.

@Jolly said in Chamber of Commerce warns on Chinese investment: Several states are now passing laws, not allowing Chinese to buy farmland here. Florida just passed such a law. https://news.yahoo.com/florida-bill-banning-chinese-citizens-021816824.html It is not unusual in other countries for there to be limitations on foreign ownership of land. In Thailand, for example, you cannot buy a single family house. You can buy a condo (actually you get a 99 year lease), but total foreign ownership of the condos in the complex must be less than 50%.

I know this is a hypothetic, but should there be a difference between treating mental illness and physical illness? In other words, treating someone to bring them back to 100% - is there anything wrong with that? Person A has depression, which interferes with his ability to function. He is given medicine to make him better. Not taking the medicine will cause him to revert. Person B has back problems which interfere with his ability to function. He is given medicine to make him better. Not taking the medicine will cause him to revert. There is certainly a stigma around mental illness. (Yes, I realize that this is a swerve from the original intent of this forum thread)

Handy with a hammer? Had a buddy who bought a house in the garden district within walking distance of LSU, for the purpose of renting out two bedrooms while his daughter lived in the third bedroom. House needed some TLC. He went in and fixed a few small things on the outside, then painted the exterior. Next, he tackled the kitchen, repainting the walls, cabinets and laying builder's quality ceramic tile on the floor. That was followed by some bathroom work I don't think was too expensive. Don't know what he did in the front room, but I know he painted the bedrooms after doing some sheetrock repair and then had FHA carpet (it was faster and cheaper) laid down. He sold the house after his daughter graduated. I don't think he made a huge profit, but his daughter's housing expenses in college were pretty low.

It’s time to wrap it up. Got rather ridiculous in the first half.

Nope. I was ready to head to the house. It is the season, though. They're nice and big this year. Several big boils have happened around here for one cause or another. The rice farmers should be happy, as they tend to make more money off of the crawfish than they make from their rice crop.

We seriously need to do two things: Congress needs to write and make less law. Congress needs to write better law. Law that is more succinct, with less loopholes and clearer meanings.

@Axtremus said in Adaptation Studies: @Aqua-Letifer, among TNCR regulars, it seems to me you are more likely to know about something like ... what do you think of it? It's something we covered a lot in my master's, with some emphasis on commercial application. I think as a "Study" it's bullocks. As a practice, it's very difficult. To create a good adaptation, you have to have developed sufficient sensibility in both the original medium, and in the one you intend to adapt it to. That's why "the book was better" is such a cliché. Back in the day, though, Disney were the undisputed masters at this.
