Yes, he is a good guy. He has a sense of humor, a friendly guy. He likes telling the story of how he got the idea for the Pegasus in a hotel lobby across the street from the Smithsonian Udvar-Hazy museum. Which, by coincidence, is now the home of a Pegasus rocket. My primary care physician, back in Herndon, was another MIT product. Before med school, he was on the team that sat in a back room in Houston calculating orbital paths for the Apollo spacecraft. He was another guy I could spend a lot of time talking with, very friendly and full of interesting information. I think really smart guys tend to be normal, with maybe a few quirks.

@George-K That could be good. With Vivek and Christie out of the picture for this one, there might be some substance. Agreed, unless of course Mr. Magnificence himself deigns to participate at the last possible moment. It will then consist of little other than a whole lot of blubber and noxious wind - enough in fact, to make an elephant seal weep.

@Axtremus said in I've got an easy answer. Actually, I have two.: What's the optimal length for "childhood"? Think of them as individual persons rather than a class labeled "girls". When dealing with broad, class problems, individual solutions are not feasible. How long should childhood be? If you asked my parents or me, we'd have told you that playtime was over when you graduated high school. I think we've dragged that out to the mid-twenties and I'm not sure that's good for the individual or for society.

They're considering calling it a "terrorism" incident. Driver reportedly (by his parents) had bipolar disorder, but no official diagnosis.

@Doctor-Phibes said in What genius dreamed up this nonsense? Dry January!: I'm hardly ever ill, but frequently tipsy. I suspect these two things may be connected. Dry January? What a stupid idea. Having said that, I really do need to shed the Christmas weight-gain. Went for a big walk this morning, and then took two more with the dogs. Nice! My Christmas weight gain is really a "had a 3rd kid" weight gain. Realistically it's not possible to work out in the evening after kids are in bed, or in morning before they wake up, since the odds are there will be at least one kid up before 11pm and one before 6am, and usually a few wake-ups between. Anyway...... my point being, the only things I can control is to stop eating/boozing at night, which has been a very delicious, very relaxing, very rewarding bad habit over the last year. I'm 6 feet tall, but currently weigh 230. My all time heaviest was 232 back in 2006 before I took up running and went down to 175 over the course of 2 years. Would love to be around 180 again in two years but to start that... better sleep, less snacking/drinking, and working out when I can. A very stupid and long way of saying, I'm on Day 2 of no booze.
