It sounds like this was about the accident victim. There is more to the story.

@Jolly said in The Summer SCOTUS Rumor: @Axtremus said in The Summer SCOTUS Rumor: @Jolly said in The Summer SCOTUS Rumor: (... can you imagine what Biden will bring to the bench?) You may not need to "imagine"; Biden said he will release his list of possible Supreme Court nominees before the general election: https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/505311-biden-to-release-list-of-possible-supreme-court-nominees Good. Then the whole world will know what's coming. Assuming this lifer hack politician keeps his word.

Apparently, that was the source for the mother that tested positive and went to her kid's graduation that I posted about a few days ago (and the kid tested negative...Go figure).

@jon-nyc said in Christopher Hitchens: It would be very hard to not have held differing views than him at times. I saw him debate once when he still wrote for the nation and was not yet famous. There were drinks afterward Stephen Fry hosted a tribute to him when he was very ill, and one of his friends said you could go out with him in the evening and drink so much that you woke up the next morning with a hangover that would last about a week and half, and then stagger into the living room to find he'd just written two articles.

@Larry said in Speaking privilege to power: e, or a peacock. He kind of walked like a velociraptor in Jurassic Park. It looked like he might be taking hormones because he had the beginnings of some boobs. Yeah, kinda thought that, too.

I do not believe that BLM protesters are out there protesting for their opportunity to go to school and get a middle class job and work it for the rest of their lives. Quantitative equality such as that is just not that appealing to any segment of the left. To say nothing of the by now obvious fact that that opportunity exists, as the whole country, right and left, has bent over backwards to ensure, for decades.

I think the “white power” guy is getting a bad rap. It looked like the other guys were calling them racist and he was kind of mocking it. When I first watched that video, that's exactly how I saw it, too. Yes

The finding even if true is trivial at best. Nobody doubts that large gatherings don't help with COVID. If those large gatherings are avoided by an even larger group of people, who stay indoors, well, whoop dee doo. That is a separate issue from the fact that large gatherings don't help with COVID. A reductio analogy would be that if you shoot everybody in the head, you would eliminate COVID deaths entirely.

@taiwan_girl said in Bret Weinstein's plan to save the US: It is too much of a fantasy, though it sounds good. I am sure if you ask President Trump or Vice President Biden if they meet the three criteria that is listed above, both will answer strongly "yes". Yup. We’ve seen this movie before. The third lane has taken many forms, too many to name over the years. He’s likely to get a good mailing list though.

Rand Paul's point about our need for optimism is useful here. These sorts of numbers do not get disseminated because they do not conform with our pessimism/fear maximization bias for COVID.
