Apparently, Otis' elevator didn't go all the way to the top.

I wonder if the dumb clear plastic "windows" at places will ever come down.

I saw a report that claimed that, by reducing airflow, COVID was more common in places that put up those shields.

What's up in PA? I haven't really watched the news, I know LD was heading there to get some dog teeth cleaned, and the Redskins lost to the Steelers on an offsides call.

For vote counts, Trump got 74 million, same as what he got in 2016 and Harris got far fewer than Biden, which makes sense since inflation is up, and she's never been popular.

    How was Orlando?

Warm and humid, honestly not sure how folks can stand it during the day. But the evenings make up for it...beautiful nights in the low 70s and breezy.

Took the 3 young kids to Disney World for 2 days (3 nights), overall had a great time. I'd never been either, the operations of that place is mind boggling. Then went to Clearwater Cocoa Beach to show the kids what a real beach looks like, not the wimpy lake beaches we have here. Our 6 year old couldn't get enough of the waves and the boogie board. Very fun to watch. Taught them how to catch sandcrabs after the waves come in. I toured Kennedy Space Center with my FIL... that was a great experience. Next time I'll have to plan to go for 2 days to see it all. (Thanks for asking btw)

On the subject of woke resurgence, we got an internal message that our company has recently re-launched its Women's Empowerment Group, membership open only to women. The timing being what it was, I doubt this group would have re-launched if Harris had won. I don't know what the practical effect of their group might be, but sniffing out Trump supporters and marginalizing them would probably be one of the practical considerations, even if not explicitly stated.

@kluurs said in Are you "at home"?:

I feel pretty glued down to our home. It's an art gallery, music studio, library, greenhouse... It's challenging to consider moving. Heck, just to rearrange the pictures on the wall would be a nightmare. On the other hand, our house is 2 stories with the only full bath on the second floor. It means a lot of stair climbing which is fine right now, but it may not always be so friendly a concept.

When we take a trip, I'm always happy to return to home. It is comfort that envelops us.

I have a friend who is a contractor. He won't build a two-story without one bedroom and a full bath on the bottom floor.

He also won't build a home of any type without 36" bathroom doors.

Am thinking Stefanik will prove to be a good choice as the UN Ambassador. Haley had little foreign policy experience too but impressively rose to the occasion during her tenure. Stefanik will surely do the same. She’s aggressive and will not tolerate for a second mendacious nonsense from the likes of that Kremlin hood, Nebenzya, or the arrogance of the Iranians and many of the Arab envoys.

When you really became convinced Trump would win.

For me, it was the barbershop piece. He was so comfortable, in his element, and so natural. It was then I really saw the attraction.

What bumped him over the edge had nothing to do with him. The deciding votes in my opinion came from people who saw the other party ignore the working class and double down on identity politics. Their vote wasn't for Trump but "not that."

    Agreed.

Like it or not, you know where Trump stands and what he'll do. He'll offend, but he'll lead. People in the ballot box (or on their way to vote) looking at the check box for Trump and the check box for Harris, probably saw Harris' name and thought "she's never been popular, she's associated with Biden, and now it seems she'll say whatever people want to hear which is not sincere"... or something along those lines. In other words, the vote was for "not that" (as you said) or they just didn't vote at all, given the choices.

BTW @Mik for me I had a thought after Trump was shot at that "there's no way he loses now" but admittedly later in the summer was still doubtful until I kept seeing @LuFins-Dad 's poll numbers in the It's Starting thread. Knowing Trump overperforms his poll numbers, once he was tied again or leading, it seemed that is when it was over for Harris.
