@taiwan_girl said in Analysis of a photo by CNN: Pictures are pretty amazing things. A good photograph will live forever. But the other side is photographs like this. If I was at a funeral, and someone was filming me the whole, I am sure that one frame of the funeral, I maybe would have a smile or slight smile on my face. They could take that photograph and easy make it sound like I was happy to be at the funeral. Yeah, the whole "a photograph doesn't lie" thing is pretty ridiculous. Todd Hido considers photographs to be somewhere between a novel and a film in terms of what kind of imagination the viewer has to provide in order to interpret the message. I think that's true, but I like John Free's explanation better: he claims he never took a picture of what something was, only what it could be. I don't think he was being colorful, either, I think that's actually what happens.

Liz's problem is that she couldn't see, or say, that there were good Republicans on both sides. I like her a lot, but I can't see her winning primaries.

Three years ago my 28-year-old single, divorced daughter got a no-down USDA loan (best kept secret) just outside the Portland Metro urban growth boundary and bought half of a duplex in an HOA neighborhood. Cost her $157,900 but was probably about a $180,00-190,000 value all because there were no interior pics because it had renters in it, you couldn't tour it until you made a rescindable offer, and it had sat on the market about a month. Two years later and some improvements like all new flooring and landscaping she sold it for about $50k in profit and bought a condo in one of the most upscale communities just outside of Portland proper. A little luck and some smart thinking. Her commute was about 30 minutes on a typical day, and sometimes a horrific 2 hours if there was an accident. It can be done.

Never like "secret court." Be it FISA or whatever, shine as much sun on it as possible.

Maybe the university will record and publish videos of the guess lectures later. Maybe you can try to start a petition to advocate for that.

What a silly argument. Just because your wealth is inherited or realized through very long term capital appreciation, that that some how makes you "not rich"?

Rule of Thumb: If a guy has his knife in his hand and you have your gun in the holster, you can probably kill him. But, you WILL be cut. You might even die, if you don't block the thrust and he gets lucky.

@doctor-phibes said in Meanwhile, in Florida....: Mrs Centner and her husband David Centner have described themselves as "health freedom advocates", providing guidance for parents at the Centner Academy to file for exemptions from vaccine requirements in the past. Ah yes, ersatz libertarians. Best to stay away from that lot.

@klaus said in "Nomadland": @jolly said in "Nomadland": Today's popcorn movies are tomorrow's classics. Not all, but the well done ones will be watched 50 years from now. Gone With The Wind may be the ultimate popcorn movie. Much of it now is indelibly chiseled into the American psyche. So you think people will watch Ironman in 50 years? The special effects will look dated in 10 years, and all that remains if you subtract the VFX are a few semi-decent gags and a story that makes no sense. For lots of awesome gags, check out Deadpool 1 and 2.

OK, that solution is better than what I proposed, but at least I got the overall strategy right: @klaus said in Puzzle Time - Natives at the Crossroad: This lets you identify one person who is for sure not the random guy. Then proceed as in the well-known two-person variant and ask the non-random guy the question for that puzzle.

It’s our culture now to diminish other people. The only difference is it is virtuous to mock people from the bad tribe and horrific to mock people from the good tribe. I pretty much have come to the realization that the only purpose news serves anymore is to generate outrage and it’s boring.

@axtremus said in What will Mike Pence do?: @horace said in What will Mike Pence do?: So, Ax, would you sign the petition? No. Would you be glad if S&S backed down due to it? Don't care one way or another. Maybe I should have qualified that by saying "if you worked there". I would be disappointed in my employer if they caved to such a petition.

My second Pfizer was largely a non event. I did a long run the next morning, felt like a hangover run. Then I felt like crap, took a nap and by afternoon felt really great....that was noticeable so I must have been compromised for a short window.
