We had an old isoflurane (look it up) vaporizer in the storeroom that was going to be pitched. One of my partners turned it into a lamp.

@Jolly said in DeSantis blocks funds because sports team tweeted something he doesn’t like: He vetoed $75M for USF, too. Wonder what they did? https://www.usforacle.com/2022/06/02/desantis-approves-245-million-in-legislative-requests-to-usf-in-annual-state-budget/ I don't think denying Desantis' potential political motivation is even necessary here. So what if a political motivation was in the mix? That's his job, to represent the interests of the people who voted for him. They are not interested in public money going to private companies who propagate political messaging they disagree with.

Of course not. Doesn't fit what they want you to hear.

Just read this in a blog post about the beach at Nazaré: Now the winter months are just as popular as the summer, with big names in surf living out the season catching waves the size of 5 piggy-backing giraffes.

@Axtremus said in Student loans: @LuFins-Dad said in Student loans: Wait a minute... The woman is 53 years old and was in forbearance while she was in school. Who wants to bet that she went to school in her mid to late 30s full time, lived completely off of student loans, those loans were through Sally Mae making her think they were federal when most weren't, and probably stayed in school to get her masters just because she was stuck living off loans? While it may evoke the feeling of righteousness panning that teacher's unwise decisions, cases like her's are not driving policy proposals. Biden proposed $10k per head for student loan forgiveness, and now Biden is proposing the same $10k he campaigned on. And he has a snowball's chance in hell of dragging that one to the finish line.

@Larry said in The House Next Door: I like that last one. That one was owned by a (bad) doctor at the hospital where I trained. None of his patients spoke English. It was all Serbian, or something like that. He would admit his patients for "diagnostic testing." Back in those days you could do that. I would walk in and ask the patient why they were there, and they would smile, nod and say, "I vait doktor S...." Frustrating to say the least.

In Amsterdam.: I'm pretty sure those hotels weren't allowed to kick them out. https://www.government.nl/topics/coronavirus-covid-19/visiting-the-netherlands-from-abroad/tourism-and-recreation-in-the-netherlands Still though, they did, and by the time they get it sorted out, they'll be home. I'm sending this along, though. https://www.iamsterdam.com/en/plan-your-trip/practical-info/corona-virus Remain inside. Do not leave your home or hotel room. Arrange to be tested for coronavirus. Call 0800-1202 to schedule an appointment. If you test positive for coronavirus, you and any travelling companions must self-isolate in your holiday accommodation for two weeks. I get it, but they were already kicked out and they already started staying elsewhere, so what difference does this make? In case they run into any more problems where they are at currently. Ah. Yes, absolutely.

It wasn’t just the assassination of the judge it was the list the guy had with the judge and others on it that was salient.

@Jolly said in For lunch today...: Making barbecue racist ... Was the family black? For whatever reason, down here the absolute best barbecue masters are usually black and usually men. Nope. This was a white guy, with a Latino wife and daughter working with him. Or so I assume. I am going to get some history next time I go. He’s the gregarious sort who seems to like talking.

We made mistakes. That is Medicine when it gets blindsided by the unknown. We treat, we learn, we change tactics and create treatment regimens. Not to go all Hannity on the thread, but why haven't we seen more intensive intervention at symptom onset with COVID? Why have we not emphasized monoclonal antibody treatment more and we haven't we helped fund the next generation of antibody treatments for emerging variants? Why don't we already have a booster vaccine for the newer variants, especially for the over-65 set of folks? Why aren't we taking a more intense look at Long Covid symptoms and cures? Why aren't we doing some major follow-ups on long-term adverse effects of the COVID vaccine in certain age groups? We still have a lot to learn.
