Night Sky’s themes are all about the creeping deterioration of aging. Fuck, I’m living that. I sure as hell don’t need it for entertainment. Too bad. Great cast, could have been an interesting sci fi.

At least the Schiff Show allowed cross examination by Jordan and others. This didn't even have that.

@LuFins-Dad said in There is joy in Mudville!: @89th said in There is joy in Mudville!: @LuFins-Dad said in There is joy in Mudville!: @89th said in There is joy in Mudville!: I picked a good time to stop being a Nationals fan (worst in division) and become a Twins fan (best in division). You know, that’s not really how fandom works, right? Do you think @Mik will quit being a Bengals and Reds fan when he retires to Tampa? Did Copper switch allegiance when he moved to NOVA, and then on down to Norfolk? I should clarify, I'll always wish the Nats, Steelers, and Capitals well... but will be watching/following the Twins, Vikings, and Wild. I have a good buddy who was a life long Reds and Bengals fan, but after living in NOVA for a few years and planning to retire there, he adopted the Nats and Redskins as his new teams. Let me point out that if your friend adopted new teams, then he was not, in point of fact, a “lifelong fan”. No, what you and your friend have are rooting interests. There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s nice to have rooting interests and it’s also possible to have rooting interests while being a fan of a different team. I had a rooting interest in the Nats when they went on their World Series run, but I wasn’t a fan. To claim that is insulting to those people that are fans and are completely all in on their teams no matter where they live. I totally get where you are coming from but there isn't one rule for being a fan. For example in my case, I have rooted for the same teams for 40 years, including the Steelers which wasn't a hometown team for me, so getting the local coverage was never there. I rooted for the Steelers for 13 years before a championship, the Nats for 14 years before a championship, and the Capitals for 36 years before a championship. Luckily I got to see all of them win, eventually. Now, I have moved 1,000 miles away and plan to live here for the next 40 years so I want to become a fan of the local sport teams here. Yes I could be fans of both teams but that feels weird so for once in my life I am switching to a different fan base... I guess you could say I have a rooting interest in my previous teams, but if the teams ever meet up in a championship, I'll be rooting for my Minnesota teams. SKOL!
  • Hay Copper! What do you think of LIV Golf?

@Horace that is weird about the paywall, I definitely do not have a subscription. Anyway, the very short version is: Greg Norman, PGA number 1 dude for most of the 90s, is starting another golf league called LIV (yes, it does stand for 54 holes of golf), which is backed by endless Saudi money. Right now it's not broadcasted on TV in the states (networks are scared of pissing off the PGA), and the prize money is really big so a number of big names (including Dustin Johnson who got paid $150 million, and Phil Mickelson who got paid $200 million) are ditching their PGA membership to play in the league. It is TBD the impact on their participation in existing big events like the Majors (probably can still play), Ryder cup (probably can't), and PGA events (can't). The LIV league has like 8 events, has a fun twist on it (team play, shotgun start) and again... really big prize money. My gut says it is not a long-term league but it is interesting to see the new/fun twist on official events, which does put pressure on the PGA. That being said, I'm a traditionalist and scoff at anyone trying to change anything about the existing golf league/events/structure that has been in place for 500 years... ok maybe 50. Pretty easy money decision for Dustin and Phil to make. $150-200 million just to PLAY in the league? Rumor has it Tiger Woods was offered a mind boggling number (I would guess like $500-750 million) but turned it down. Many other pros on the PGA have also sworn off the LIV league but when they see these no-names winning $10 million each week, it might be hard to keep other pros from ditching the PGA.

@LuFins-Dad said in Pencil Sharpener: @brenda said in Pencil Sharpener: @jon-nyc said in Pencil Sharpener: Brenda has a lot to answer for. No kidding. What is going on in Minnesoooooota? We have professional pencil sharpeners? ️ Imagine seeing that on someone's resume. No, the artisanal pencil sharpener mentioned in the story is from NY. He just traveled to Minnesota to see the unveiling of the giant pencil…. Now that doesn’t mean you don’t have professional pencil sharpeners, but the one from the story is a tourist. What Minnesota DOES have is a growing list of oddball tourist Meccas Yes, we encourage oddball tourists. It helps to make the rest of us feel more normal.

@Axtremus said in Apple's announcements yesterday: don’t want to lose a basic instrument like the speedometer My favorite feature in my car is the HUD. It projects speed, speed limit, and if I engage the cars GPS, it'll project turn-by-turn directions as well.

Jesus. If I can stomach seeing it again I will post this screed my niece posted about women’s ‘body autonomy’. It is the most tortured, twisted, belligerent defense of abortion I’ve ever seen.
