Interesting idea - but I don't see how it works in terms of dollars and cents.

A shared article already gets revenue from increased traffic.

Entirely depends on the platform. If you're talking Instagram, for example, no they absolutely do not. Instagram provides no increased traffic whatsoever. (Although retailers do see a benefit due to the Marketplace.)

Other platforms, it entirely depends on the amount being shared. I'm sure you've noticed yourself that you don't need to read an article on social media to comment on it. The view/visit ratio is far from 1:1, and much of the time the traffic from social is nominal compared to other sources.

What value do you apportion to a shared news article? What's the distinction between a news article vs. a blog? What about a really viral tirade, should the writer get compensated for that?

Yep, no idea. All good questions.

Those are ocular migraines...And, hey, you may be one of the lucky ones...If you have vision symptoms before the migraine pain hits, you may be able to head off the migraine.

Actually, that's the prodrome to a classic migraine. The "scintillating scotoma," or flashing lights are a sign that blood flow to the visual cortex is being compromised. Compromised because of vasoconstriction. It's the vascular dilation that stretches the meninges that causes the actual headache which usually follows. If you catch it early, some anti-inflammatories can mitigate, or in my case, abort the development of a full-fledged migraine headache.

An "ocular migraine" is something different, where there is actual vision loss or blindness that lasts an hour or more.

Basically I see a whole bunch of bright, starry splotches, but not accompanied with a headache. So which might that be? Doc just told me it's not serious.

Yes, but the technique, the so-called Kirlian photography? Is what we're seeing the energy of the food, or some other artifact of the process?

Don't know yet. Have to see the same technique applied to a few other things, for examples:

A piece of plastic, say, a Lego block A piece of stone or clay or china A cut of meat, cooked/well done A cut of meat, raw A piece of ferromagnetic metal A piece of non-ferromagnetic metal A piece of magnet An ice cube A piece of glass, say, a shot glass Water in the aforementioned shot glass Water in a plastic cup A fresh grape A raisin (dried grape) Fresh tea leaves Dried tea leaves

Work through all those variations and we'll have a better understanding of what that process shows or does not show.

Dont know much about why to eliminate the Dept of Education. Why to do that?

It's expensive. Do we get $70B worth of value from the Department of Education? I think not. Correlating with number 1, what do we get for our money? It's been around since the late 70's with no real gains in student proficiency. Shuks, throw Headstart into the mix and we spend $100B per year, with no lasting benefits. Common Core. That abomination alone, is enough to burn the department down to the ground. It piles up unfunded mandates. Loal districts know how muh money they have and what they need to spend it on. Get the Feds out of their back pockets. Lastly, it's actually unconstitutional. Nowhere in the Constitution is education mentioned. Public education is a state and local issue, not a Federal one.

All of these. Particularly the unfunded mandates. Schools when we grew up had a principal and an assistant principal and a counselor. Maybe. Now they have several counselors, few of any real value when students can look up whatever they need online, often three vice principals whose jobs it is to meet these federal mandates.

Didn't read the article because I don't care about no George Soros, but I can't imagine that Soros poured a measly $220 million into racial justice. $220 million is chump change for him. No need to pour. $220 million for George Soros is like what happens with you when you put change in your pants pocket and the pocket has a hole in it.

Yesterday, Mrs. George asked me when it became improper to say "Oriental." When and why was that term replaced by "Asian?" Is "Oriental" not accurate, or is it offensive in some way?

    It is accurate.

It is in no way offensive.

But it was outlawed for no reason I can figure out maybe 15 years ago.

It was replaced with Asian, which is obviously inaccurate. Asia goes all the way over to Turkey but Asian is used to describe those from Eastern Asia.

I say bring back Oriental. I don't think there was ever any disrespect associated with it.

I am a big fan of farming, and know people who farm, both in the US and other countries.

The gentleman is correct that you dont want to have the farmers include the subsidy payouts in their planning. That is a recipe for disaster.

I also think that the US should start to remove the support for ethanol. Never really thought that was a good idea. Ethanol requires a whole separate pipeline (no pun intended LOL) from the other energy sources.

I think the US should focus on potential bio-fuel sources which can use the same pipelines, etc as regular petroleum fuel. Malaysia used (not sure about right now) have a pretty good program to promote bio fuels. They did order that plants planted for biofuels could not replace food crops.

Thailand had a problem to try and have biofuels be 7% of the fuel supply by 2030(?). That program is somewhat on hold right now however.

In the US, not sure how you help the individual "family farm", as they are disappearing pretty fast and the "company farms" are having a bigger and bigger precent of the overall farming market.

Good discussion, but I dont have any answers. 😞

With best of intentions the project got deprioritized but may be back on this Saturday. The final nail in the coffin was a necessary trip for more paints and a debate over grades of sandpaper.
