The Ukraine war thread@Renauda I would be pleasantly surprised to see the Russians handing over Zaporizha to the Americans without any restriction.

A VisualizationA visualisation of the precentage of the gross national product used for military funding would be more meaningful. Small countries can never spend the same amount of money like the US do.

Best way to digitize old photographs?I scanned about 500 photo's with a flatbed, one by one at 600dpi. Goes pretty slow, but quality is way better than 300 dpi, especially when you want to enlarge/zoom in on details.
I tried scanning with 10 photo's at a time, but I got too many blurred or partially scanned results.
It was time consuming, but I'm happy with the results. -

Need a helping hand@taiwan_girl Hey TG, lo and behold
Last Saturday I had visited some antiquarians in Brussels. My search was fruitless, but I just got an e-mail from one antiquarian who had contacted some colleagues, and he can offer me now the issue I need for a very reasonable price. So, this is where my quest stops.
Thank you very much for your interest, I owe youWim

Need a helping hand@taiwan_girl I'm currently researching a French author who lived in Belgium. He published a poetry album in 1937 and was supposed to publish a second one but he died in 1944. One poem however was published posthumously in 1945 in a Belgian literary magazine.
It took me quite some time to retrieve this specific issue as it was not available in Belgium or anywhere else in Europe. Eventually I found out there was one issue at the university of Iowa. This one had been digitized by Google in 2022.
Unfortunately the sneak preview isn't very helpful, so I asked the library of the university of Iowa if they could provide me with a digital copy of the relevant page(s). I got a standard reply that I should act trough Inter Library Loan, which I tried but that failed as well.
I can provide you with all the details necessary (including barcode of this issue at the library in Iowa), but I'd rather do that through private message because I don't want to go public with my project yet. Thanks for the help you offer, information on this author is extremely scarce.

Need a helping handI sent an e-mail to the University of Iowa, with a request to scan a document which is only to be found in their library.
The short answer I got was a standardized reply that I should log in through Inter Library Loan. That's what I tried, but the login doesn't accept me (probably because I live in Belgium).Flying over to the US for a simple scan is just too expensive for me

So, is there someone who can give me a helping hand?
Send me a PM and I'll give all the background info that's available.Wim
