First of all, I love Jodi Foster. She has aged so well...and she has a "relaxed" approach to acting that makes her work so damn good.
I also loved "Contact" but that's just me.
Not just you, that is such a great movie. I could watch it from start to finish anytime it's on.

SIDE NOTE... From this, I've gone back and started watching The Natural again. Yes I've seen it before a few times, but mostly as a kid. And I've watched the famous scenes a few times. Great music... but as an adult now, I chuckle at some of the scenes (like Brimley as the coach) and the grumbling. Also, the opening 15 minutes... both beautiful as well as really scripted to get the story to a jump start. Could border on corny/forced but ultimately is beautiful What a great movie for baseball fans, too.
Ok I finished a (re)watch of The Natural. You know, I'm struck by how simple and predictable the dialogue is. Almost laughable if you were just reading the script on paper. But man, it is wrapped up in such a beautifully-made film, the music, the editing, the announcer in the background, the transition between scenes... visual poetry.

Saw Roadhouse on Prime last night. Pretty fun. I enjoyed McGreggor's hammy part. Looks like he was on some juice to prepare for the part, like Gyllenhaal. The movie reminds me of the time I was an ex UFC fighter who killed a man in the ring, and then became an itinerant bouncer for hire at the world's seediest bars. Two fists up from a guy who's been there, done that.

Park your belief at the door and enjoy the movie.
Do that and it's 1/2...

BTW, I remember reading how Chris Pratt gets in shape for the Galaxy movies...No red meat, four hours workout per day and he stays hungry for three months.
And yeah, I suspect he's juicing, too.

Also, the CGI was surprisingly bad in parts.

Only about halfway through, but it's absolutely riveting.
In the comments, someone said, "Anthony Hopkins can speak Shakespearean English and make it sound like he made it up on the spot."
Amazon Prime.

"Lear" was fabulous. Just fabulous.
Since I was so enthralled with it, I watched the Ian McKellan version of Richard III this morning. The film is 30 years old, and it kind of shows, but, considering the source material is 400 years old, I'll forgive.
Very well done also.

Watched The Holdovers last night. Pretty good.
I would have known it was an Alexander Payne movie just by the similarities to Sideways, which is one of my favorites.
He kind of belabors the obvious, but good characters and dialogue.

The Making of An Ordinary Woman. Really really good "slice of life" about Taiwan during the time I was growing up. Lots of laughs and memories when watching it. It is in a combination of Mandarin and Taiwanese.
39-year-old Chen Chia Lin doesn’t have a car, an apartment or a husband, and she just lost her job. Born in southern Taiwan during Taiwan’s economic takeoff, Chen was raised by her parents and grandparents to be a straight-A student and a respectable lady. But Chen knew in her heart that her dreams would not blossom in her hometown, and after a rebellion in the family, she left home to study in Taipei. After 20 years of trying to establish herself in the city and ‘living by the rules’, Chen now swears to live her life as an unapologetically confident woman.
